Every once in a while, I post pages from my 2012 digital comic Samurai Suronu to dispel the "natural talent" argument. Every comic artist who you like was at some point a novice in the craft. Whether that be character design, story, or writing.
We all start somewhere.
Especially nowadays, its so easy for people who despise artists to say "well I'll never be good, they have natural talent". Are some skills inherited? Possibly. But growth comes from practice, study and a willingness to take big creative swings that don't always work out.
I've been quite silent on this year's #inktober challenge, and now returning from a four year hiatus is a new one month challenge. A one-shot #comic #horrorcomic : Space Man.
A widower, Richard Browne travels through the dimensional cellar in his house to rescue his son, Mickie.

I’m going to be at #SPX this weekend in Maryland! If you see me, say hi!
I enjoy writing comedy & slice-of-life. I feel like these genres are discouraged in today's comic climate because they force the writer to engage in characterization, setups, punchlines and attention to detail. I could write a more popular genre, but I wouldn't be happy doing it.
Of course, this is not shade at those genres, but I feel like those spaces are so overpopulated, that seeing someone try working on a genre as barren as comedy, I'm tempted to applaud it. (FYI, I mean well-thought out, smarter comedy, not slurs and cheap tricks)
