Just a guy with 39 successful combat flight missions on his resume about to dig in with a guy who was a machine gunner at Omaha Beach on D-Day behind the plate. Two men.

For me, it’s the look on his face when he walks off the mound. Like it was the coolest thing a president has ever done, which it kinda was.

🌺 I will speak for my city, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. On 9/11 we welcomed 47 planes. We brought 8,000 (mostly US) people into our homes & did all we could to help them. We cooked, drove & took them to see much beauty in NS. It was our privilege. Yes, we will do it again. 🇨🇦

President Bush throwing out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium after 9/11 remains one of the most remarkable moments in sports.
I’ve thrown out the first pitch at a White Sox game, so there are a few things you should know.
First, it’s not easy. You’re standing out there by yourself, everybody is watching, and that 60 feet, 6 inches suddenly feels a LOT farther than it looks.
And George W. Bush did it wearing a bulletproof vest under his FDNY pullover. (As I mentioned yesterday, my grandfather was FDNY, so I loved that.)
Second, he did get to warm up beforehand—which most of us throwing ceremonial first pitches don’t get to do. But the last time Bush had played organized baseball was Little League. Bush himself later joked, “Little League is where I peaked.”
Third, while Bush was warming up, Derek Jeter came by. Jeter asked if he was going to throw from the mound or move up closer.
EVERYONE asks you this once you’ve thrown out a first pitch. There are two questions:
“Did you throw from the mound?” (I did.)
“Was it a strike?” (More on that in a minute.)
Bush asked Jeter what he thought. Jeter told him to throw it from the mound.
Then, as Jeter walked away, he gave the President one more piece of advice:
“Don’t bounce it. They’ll boo you.” 😂
So Bush walks out there—49 days after 9/11, in Yankee Stadium, wearing an FDNY pullover over a bulletproof vest, with the country watching. He gets on the mound. And he throws a strike.
One of the most important strikes ever thrown in baseball.
Twenty-five years later, the clip still gets me.
And, no, mine was not a strike. But it wasn’t embarrassing either. 😂

It almost looks to me as if Iran is mocking Trump. It looks to me as if Iran understands strategy and posture better than him, knows how to exploit his hyperbolic narratives, addiction to social media, lack of impulse control, and yo-yo-like bluster purely aimed at preventing markets from tanking too badly.
It certainly looks to me as if Iran doesn't yet want to give him the daylight that he desperately needs to exit the debacle he started. Yet he continues to insult and threaten them through bloviation, because he CANNOT stop. Because he needs to project grandiosity and distance himself from humiliation. Or he'll melt.
Iran's control of the Strait of Hormuz is a new card for the world, courtesy of Trump the reckless dingbat.
Iran keeping their enriched uranium is another new card for the world, courtesy of Trump the windbag.
Iran taking the US' best punch and still firing missiles and drones is a new card for the Gulf States to deal with, courtesy of Trump, the world's worst ally.
Iran knows Trump's polling is tanking, knows he wants to move on, knows he needs to move on, knows he is trapped by his own incompetence, and knows he has no ability to admit it.
That's their biggest card.

Thank you to this poster, who may just have a tiny bit of insight into how to win at the highest level of sport.
