There are very real challenges with doing a wealth tax on the state level. But this paper makes a bunch of implausible modeling choices. For one, they overestimate departing billionaire income taxes by 3x.
California's Billionaire Tax Act would collect roughly $30 billion. Accounting for lost income taxes from departures, the mean Net Present Value is negative $39 billion, from Benjamin Jaros and Joshua Rauh nber.org/papers/w35899

Fuck these fascist thugs. This is horrifying.
ICE run over U.S. citizen riding his bike—break his arm. Agents handcuff him behind his back without calling paramedics. They inflict even more injuries—send him to the hospital in serious condition. Then agents detain another U.S. citizen—for yelling at them on the sidewalk. Man with the broken arm's daughter says he was hit on his e-bike by an unmarked car. He was then tased twice and pinned to the ground—currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Multiple ICE vehicles were running through stop signs—speeding the wrong way down one-way streets. All on a weekend afternoon with kids playing outside. Incident occurred near the intersection of East 56th Street & Elm Avenue in Long Beach, California. Stop ICE Net doesn't have an account on this platform—so posting first full length, English translated, and credited video here to help raise awareness.

Republicans 15 days before the election: "Hey, has anyone thought of putting together an actual economic policy agenda to address inflation?" Even funnier: This is coming from the Trump team, who just spent 2 years imposing inflationary tariffs, tax cuts, deportations, etc. 🙃
👀 Rs inside Trump’s political operation are warning that pro-Trump super PACs can only help so much Instead, GOP candidates need to focus on laying out 3-5 key future deliverables to “improve people’s personal economic situation” and “lower [their] cost of living.” If not, “there’s a good chance they’re going to lose.” That’s shocked Rs in tough races, who feel like they’re getting diverging messaging. It’s a big shift from even how House GOP leadership has approached the campaign trail in the final stretch. politico.com/news/2026/10/19…

I feel like the word "traitor" is thrown around too much but how else would you characterize this
🚨 SCOOP: David Milstein, an adviser at the US Embassy in Jerusalem, tried to hide convicted spy Jonathan Pollard's visit to the embassy from the CIA station chief. "Nobody was happy about that," an official who's since left the admin tells me. Read > unherd.com/2026/10/the-diplo…

lets check some of those group chats you and your coworkers are in, hmm? i'm sure it's a bastion of honor and decency
As a young conservative staffer, I’ve always thought of progressive staffers as honorable opponents in the war of ideas, messaging, and political strategy. I’m learning they do not think of us the same way.

Thomas Jefferson explicitly wrote that the founding generation intended religious freedom to protect people of all faiths, not just Christians. He specifically named Muslims and Hindus as an example.

Tell any American born before WWII that there would be a Hindu temple near Chicago in anno domini 2026. What would said American think? How would he want his posterity to react?

We have way too many lawyers defending unconstitutional prisons through no-bid legal contracts. One firm has made close to $100 million since 2020. Grift of the century. START THERE.

The bible literally says if you can’t control yourself, gouge out your eyeballs. Y’all are so weird about women
This is the kind of gymwear Shane Gillis was talking about in his monologue. If women do not understand what this accentuates, they should not be allowed out of the house unattended.

And to think I had to previously do this manually
Probably the most fucked up thing I've done with Muse is have it watch all the Instagram Stories from anyone in my Close Friends list. It sends me a summary of their Stories each morning so I don't have to watch them myself. Finally, I'm freed from the shackles of friendship

That's what Ronald Reagan said: when you raise tariffs on foreign products, the domestic product price also goes up. Republicans supported free trade for decades and Democrats opposed it, because it's a good idea and Democrats are stupid about economics. Then Trump came along and suddenly Republicans switch sides becoming even stupider about economics.
That is often what happens. Domestic steel got more expensive when we put tariffs on foreign steel.

Obv if your vibe coded project is handling sensitive user data security is an issue, but for god’s sake it’s not like amateur hobbyists hand coding projects before were security experts! If anything Codex or whatever helps identify vulnerabilities that may have been missed before

It's actually definintionally unnatural to have as many menstrual cycles as we do now. We evolved to enter puberty later and spend the vast majority of our reproductive years not menstruating because we're pregnant or breastfeeding.
This is so sad. I love my menstrual cycle. It’s not normal to have periods so bad that you need to skip them. A period should be 3 days of robust, bright cranberry colored blood with very little clotting, then 2-4 days spotting, and painless.
