The PP regime caused this crisis. First it said it wants "sovereign access to #RedSea." Then came years of threats and building up its army. Now it has attacked Tigray and told the UN it is acting in "self-defense." This is not self-defense. The #UN must act. #Eritrea #UNCharter
In the current international/diplomatic discourse regarding the imperative of adherence to, and respect of, foundational pillars of international law as well as the maintenance of regional peace and security, the following salient facts and sequence of events must be recognized, without any equivocation, as the kernel/principal causes behind the prevailing grave situation: 1. On 13 October 2023, the Potemkin Party willfully manufactured an unnecessary and avoidable crises between the two countries by formally and publicly declaring its hostile agenda of acquiring "sovereign access to the sea", apparently and ultimately through invasion and occupation of Eritrea's sovereign lands. This dangerous declaration constituted a flagrant violation of foundational pillars of international law as well as the Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship signed between the two countries in Asmara on 9 July 2018. 2. This initial declaration was ramped up in subsequent years through relentless and incendiary media campaigns; associated saber-rattling, and massive rearmament. The scope of the PP's impending invasion was also broadened to include forcible incorporation of Eritrea's southern coastline (see attached map) for the establishment of "a sovereign naval force with strategic depth". 3. The war agenda was further ratcheted up and translated into an operational plan when the PP regime launched its military operations in the Tigray Administrative Region in mid-September this year. Indeed a couple of days after the eruption of the war, the PP's Deputy Chief of Staff announced that "Mekelle will be a mere stop-over... the main objective is to install our flag in the Red Sea". 4. And on 9 October last month, the PP regime went further to ominously "notify the UNSC" on the unleashing of its war of aggression against Eritrea under the spurious pretext of "self-defense". The writing on the wall is thus crystal clear; eliciting, as it does, unequivocal condemnation as well as requisite deterrent measures in accordance with explicit provisions of the UN Charter and associated instruments.

Standing with #Eritrea's position: no dialogue without a public renunciation of threats and force, and full respect for sovereignty. The @UN and @African_Union shouldn't normalize coercion or let photo-ops pass as endorsement. #HornOfAfrica
Welcomed Mr. Guang Cong, Special Envoy of the @UN Secretary-General for the #HornOfAfrica, to the Permanent Mission of #Eritrea for an exchange of views on developments in the region. Discussed situation in #Sudan, #SouthSudan, and #Somalia, highlighting how external interventions are aggravating conflicts, deepening divisions, and undermining prospects for peace. Emphasized respect for national sovereignty, nationally owned political processes, and constructive international engagement. On #Eritrea–#Ethiopia relations, made it abundantly clear that any prospect of engagement with #Ethiopia's leadership on any level, requires a prior, public, unequivocal, and unconditional renunciation of coercion, threats, and the use of force, alongside unambiguous recognition of Eritrea's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. These are fundamental principles. Neither the @UN nor the @African_Union should normalize threats, entertain territorial claims, or reward coercive rhetoric. Dialogue must not legitimize the PP's conduct or create false equivalence. Also cautioned against the inadvertent instrumentalization of international representatives to advance #Ethiopia's political narratives, manufacture external endorsements, or portray diplomatic engagements as tacit approval of its conduct. The PP's ongoing photo-op diplomacy must not camouflage realities on the ground or obscure the consequences of impunity. Carefully staged diplomatic encounters and high-profile international appearances are not endorsements of government policies, conduct, or regional ambitions, nor should they shield the #Ethiopian leadership from scrutiny and accountability. The international community must look beyond diplomatic optics and confront the deteriorating situation within #Ethiopia, where the PP government continues to employ deadly force against its own population. Civilians have been killed, livelihoods and infrastructure destroyed, and communities subjected to violence and displacement across #Afar, #Amhara, #Benishangul-Gumuz, #Somali, Tigray, and Oromia regions . Civilian protection and accountability demand urgent international attention. Stressed that regional peace cannot be built by externalizing #Ethiopia's internal crises or pressuring Eritrea. Meaningful engagement requires trust, mutual respect, sovereign equality, and good faith, conditions that do not currently exist. The immediate priority must be to address the PP's threats and conduct that have undermined regional peace. #Eritrea will neither be drawn into #Ethiopia's internal political and security crises nor allow itself to become a convenient distraction from the challenges confronting the Ethiopian leadership. Those challenges must be addressed within Ethiopia, not externalized onto its neighbours.

Washington's Double Standard: Sanctions for #Egypt, Special Treatment for #Ethiopia? Egypt faced American pressure over its planned purchase of Russian Su-35 fighter jets. Now Ethiopia is moving ahead with the same Russian military hardware. Will Washington enforce its own #CAATSA law, or bend the rules for Addis Ababa? A law cannot be strict for Egypt and flexible for Ethiopia. If Washington believes Russian arms purchases threaten its interests, then the same standard must apply. No favourite children, no double standards, no political exceptions. Ethiopia should face the same scrutiny and consequences. Anything less exposes the hypocrisy behind Washington's so-called rules-based order. #Ethiopia #CAATSA #Su35 #Russia #HornOfAfrica #EritreaNEXT

Sovereignty, self-reliance and one standard for all nations. A clear reminder from Minister Osman Saleh that the UN Charter must apply equally to everyone. #Eritrea #UNDay2026
H.E. Osman Saleh: The #UN Must Defend the Sovereign Equality of Nations Speaking at UN Day 2026 in Asmara, Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh questioned whether the United Nations remains an effective guardian of sovereign equality or whether its founding principles are increasingly subordinated to the interests of powerful states. He reaffirmed that Eritrea’s sovereignty, independence and self-reliance remain the foundations of its national identity. He stressed that sustainable development cannot be imposed from outside but must be driven by national priorities and the active participation of the people. Highlighting development achievements, Saleh cited approximately 150 million trees planted since 2006, forest and woodland coverage rising to 13.5%, nearly 39,000 productive farm plots, immunization coverage exceeding 95%, and the expansion of water reservoirs to approximately 850. He emphasized that international assistance must strengthen national capacities and support development priorities, not become an instrument of political conditionality or external interference. On regional security, Saleh warned of escalating tensions and what he described as threats to Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reaffirmed Eritrea’s right to self-defence while calling for respect for sovereignty, non-interference and peaceful resolution of disputes. He challenged the international community to reject double standards and ensure that the UN Charter applies equally to all nations. His message: No genuine international order can exist without justice, accountability and respect for the sovereign equality of every nation. #Eritrea #UNDay2026 #OsmanSaleh @Ministersaleh

Warsay/ EDF response to the Potemkin party - ‘ባዕልኻ ዶ መቓብርካ ይፈሓርየ?' PotemkinParty, how foolishly ambitious of you to dig your own grave and bring your own shovel! Haven’t you learned from history? Every regime that coveted #Eritrea’s land and dreamed of controlling its Red Sea coast has paid the price of its arrogance. Eritrean sovereignty is NOT up for grabs. Eritreans have fought, bled, and sacrificed for their independence—and they will never surrender what generations gave their lives to defend. Some historical lessons apparently have to be learned the hard way! #Eritrea #Ethiopia #Somalia #Sudan Melake Abraham _ New Eritrean music 2026 _መልኣከ ኣብርሃም _ Tewerwari - (Of... youtu.be/9dQAtZqQsUo?si=n1B2… via @YouTube

Civilians in Ethiopia are being massacred over their ethnicity and religion, not any resistance. Eight years into Prosperity Party rule, the killings continue with little accountability. The world must act. #Ethiopia #HumanRights #StopTheKilling #Accountability #Assab
The EPRDF regime was considered brutal, carrying out massacres in Ethiopia, albeit relatively infrequently. Today, the PP regime of Abiy Ahmed makes the EPRDF look like child's play. Massacres have become a daily occurrence across the country. What makes these massacres particularly devastating is that they are perpetrated against innocent civilians who are not attempting to resist the regime politically or militarily. They are targeted purely on the basis of their ethnicity, religion, or other social identity. Moreover, there is hardly any media coverage or response from the so-called human rights organisations. To top it all, throughout the PP's eight years in power, there has not been a single expression of concern, sadness, or regret from Abiy Ahmed or any law enforcement authority, nor any assurance that these heinous massacres will be stopped. Abiy actually once said that there had always been violence in Ethiopia and that it was only because of social media that everyone could see it today. #Ethiopia is doomed under Abiy! @BBCAfrica @trtafrika @AJEnglish @cgtnafrica @StateDept @US_SrAdvisorAF

.@SecRubio Ethiopia just took delivery of 12 Russian Su-35 jets while receiving billions in US aid. Even if aid doesn't buy weapons, it frees up money that does. Review #US assistance, demand transparency, and make sure taxpayer dollars fund lives, not an arms buildup.
Dear Secretary Marco Rubio, Please ensure that American taxpayers' money is not indirectly supporting Ethiopia's growing military spending. While the US provides billions in humanitarian and development assistance to help Ethiopians, the government is investing in expensive Russian military hardware, including Su-35 fighter jets. Even if US aid does not directly purchase these weapons, it may free up government resources for military spending. I urge you to review US assistance, demand financial transparency, and ensure American taxpayers' money supports people's lives, not an arms buildup that risks civilian lives and regional stability. American taxpayers deserve accountability. Civilians deserve peace, not more weapons. @SecRubio @US_SrAdvisorAF @realDonaldTrump @SenateGOP @SFRCdems @SenateForeign @SenAdamSchiff @ChrisVanHollen @SenatorTimScott @SenatorTimScott @SenRandPaul @RepRashida @BradSherman @RepDonaldsPress @RepPressley

Go for "weapons of mass destruction!" The "king," Abiy, "the first," is definitely aimed at arms superiority in Sub-saharan African. But Ethiopia's predicament is internal not external. Remember, the Soviet Union failed to keep Eritrea's EPLF at bay or Mengistu in power!
Our comprehensive efforts to sustainably ensure our country's peace and security have reached a new milestone today. The state of readiness being built within Ethiopia's defense forces is endowing the nation with the capability to preemptively deter aggression. In accordance with our prior agreement with the Russian government, we have today taken delivery of the first twelve Su-35 4++ Generation fighter jets. Additionally, Ethiopia will receive four S-400 air defense system batteries. I would like to express my gratitude to my friend, Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his dedication in ensuring we received these warplanes a year ahead of our agreed schedule. By equipping itself with these fighter jets, Ethiopia has taken the lead among Sub-Saharan African nations. This historic achievement further strengthens our nation's sovereignty, and it will serve as a massive capability boost that allows us to confidently continue our journey toward ensuring our collective security and regional stability in the future.
