Does anyone else miss the old Railscasts format?
I do — so I'm bringing it back. Short, focused Rails screencasts, no fluff, on things that matter today.
Episode 001: model validations — validates, normalizes and a unique index.

More coming. What should I cover?
Modern vacation style: While the web is scrambling over the critical PHP RCE vulnerability, I just let my Hermes Agent handle the server repairs. 🤖🛠️
All PHP installations completely patched in minutes while I was relaxing by the pool. Automation is the ultimate vacation hack! 🏖️🍹

I'm on my quest to destroy the Adobe empire.
✅ Phase 1: Build ImageFlow to compete with Photoshop
✅ Phase 2: Ship Photoshop Beta features like Relight
→ Phase 3: Build things Photoshop doesn't even have
We just entered Phase 3.
Relight can now turn a light into a sun + cast patterns through it.
Palm leaves. Window blinds. Custom shadows.
All dynamically relit onto your photo.
And it runs in the browser for free.

"Ruby and Rails work so well with AI because decades of decisions, conventions, examples, and best practices have provided strong foundations for the LLMs’ training data. It’s time to build on that foundation instead of abandoning it."

My god this is such a good speech that every SWE needs to hear. You know what? Every person should hear it
Keep the happy memories, eyes on the reality, be excited about the future. That’s the best that anyone can do
I just released a new video on my new screencasting site (now called elbcasts.dev) about Active Job and Solid Queue

RailsWorld shows Rails is still very relevant, so I built elbcasts.dev in Rails to host short Rails screencasts.
Episode #002: one form that saves two models using a plain Ruby form object. 5 min, real code, straight from the terminal.

I've created a demo site for Rails Pulse so you can now try it out before you install it.

Have a look and let me know what you think! 😁
Works on built-in monitor speakers too. Mine went from unusable to fine in one minute.
Bad sound is my one complaint with every non-Apple laptop I have owned. A MacBook sounds good because Apple measured its speakers and tuned the DSP; on Linux you get the raw drivers. My @slimbook Executive 14 is a lovely machine, but its speakers are no exception to the rule.
This is what one press in @OmarchyLinux does to them. The Speaker Calibrator plugin makes it sound better in one minute.
It plays sweeps, listens through a microphone (the built-in ones work, a cheap USB measuring mic is better), fits a protective parametric EQ and installs it as a PipeWire filter chain. Optional deep bass from bankstown, the Asahi Linux bass enhancer. Everything runs from the bar panel.
What you hear is the room, recorded through the measuring mic where I sit. The off/on switch is level matched, so nothing gets louder, only the tone changes.
@dhh and @SpencerGBull, you tuned the XPS 14 by hand and by ear. Challenge: run this on it and tell me how it compares.

Tetris reverses aging in the brain in clinical trial.
Playing an hour of Tetris per day for 6 weeks:
‣ Increased brain volume in memory region
‣ Decreased depression
‣ Decreased anxiety
‣ Decreased PTSD symptoms
Swap this in for doomscrolling, your brain will thank you.

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.
Replying to @hilbertspaess
The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible - but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.
This here! I myself switched to macOS because of @dhh and Ruby on Rails 18 years ago...
Every time my kids asked "is the Minecraft server up?" I'd SSH into the box to check.
So I built my first Omarchy plugin: Minecraft Server Status.
Player list, scheduled restarts, in-game broadcasts and world saves — all from the desktop.

I got TouchID working on @OmarchyLinux. 👀
T1 chip, 2016-17 TouchBar era.
My understanding is that TouchID hasn't been cracked on any Linux distro yet, so an Omarchy first?
I don't have a T2 model, and M-series is not supported by Omarchy (yet) so not sure what's next.
Try Omarchy runs Omarchy on your Apple Silicon MacBook. No setup, just a standard app install.
Super easy to give Omarchy a try before you install it.
Link in the first reply.
Here's a demo of the full setup (~3min)
I built a version of Omarchy that runs on your MacBook.
I wanted to try out Omarchy before doing a full install, but I only have an M series MacBook so I would have to find a laptop etc.
So I decided to create something that allows people to test and run Omarchy on their devices so they can understand how it feels.
Now you can run Omarchy Quattro as a native, hardware-accelerated app on your Apple Silicon Mac! 🤯
I tried many things, and this approach achieved the best results. The native keyboard experience with Super shortcuts works very well, along with all the rest.
