If there’s another PH volleyball player I will never allow to be slandered, aside from Alyssa Valdez, it’s Jia Morado-De Guzman. This woman chose the Philippines over her club career for one reason: to focus on the SEA Games and help develop the young players who now make up our national team. Tapos isang game lang, and against a more stable, seasoned, long-established team, bigla na lang may sisigaw ng retire na siya? Siya na raw ang panira? Sure ba kayo diyan? Jia is a world-class setter, respected locally and internationally. But she has never played for status or reputation. She plays for the sport and for the flag. If you’re angry, direct it where it belongs: the PNVF and the PVL. Our seniors may no longer be in their prime, but they deserve far more respect than this, especially those who wore the flag before despite years of inconsistent support, poor backing, and systemic neglect.
