Two hours. 25 questions. One slightly bent whizz wheel. I went back to Linda Wheeler's ground school for my IMC theory, five years after she got me through my PPL exams. Was it worth it? ✈️ whiskeyalphapilot.com/kit-re… #IMC #groundschool
CAP3268 closes at midnight tomorrow. Thirteen questions, twenty minutes.
They want to hear from owners of old, cheap aeroplanes. That's most of us.
Skip the surveillance panic. The real objections are the ones that could kill you. #GeneralAviation #ADSB

£26.60 to land at Duxford, and that includes two hours in the museum.
Restricted joins, a frequency that never stops, and two Spitfires departing off the runway I'd just landed on. Five out of five.

A CAA webinar on engine malfunctions Do you trust your fuel gauges, brief every takeoff, and look at the fields?. New Touch and Go Logbook piece: whiskeyalphapilot.com/touch-…
Duxford handed us a queue behind two Spitfires, a Harvard and a Tiger Moth today. Flew home to Elstree past Leavesden Studios, straight in to 08, and the tower had a surprise waiting. New video: youtu.be/cTvpdF7GzMY ✈️
Jack's the oldest one on his ATPL course. Older than some of his classmates' parents. I'm about to restart my IMC, so back in the classroom. You'd think our age is a disadvantage, but is it?
New video's live now.

Twenty times more radiation at cruise than on my kitchen table.
For a passenger that is a tenth of a chest X-ray. For crew flying it every working day for thirty years, a very different sum.

There's a world between a stranger telling me something and a stranger doing something. Words I can let pass. A hand I can't.
On uninvited help, and who's in command on the ground.

I bought a radiation detector because I like things that go beep.
Then I took it through airport security with the recording running, and then onto a plane.
One of those was more eventful than the other.

Ooops - Bounced a landing at Duxford. More than once. New video goes through the whole approach from the cockpit, and the mistake started well before the flare. Would you have gone around? youtu.be/cuigX3o2wyg #ducford #generalavaition #bandlanding
People assume a YouTube channel is quietly making a fortune. My monetised one earns about enough for a GoPro battery a month. KK costs three figures an hour before I've filmed a thing.
Somebody also told me I need a CPL for this. So I read FCL.205.A

YouTube just doubled the watch hours for monetisation. 4,000 becomes 8,000 in February.
I said I was done. Lasted about a day.
Then I remembered what you do with a bad approach. You don't press on and hope. You go around and try again.

Twenty minutes to pump up one tyre. The valve hides behind the spat and lines up in exactly one place. Never the one you need. So you move the aeroplane. New logbook piece on why I hate wheel spats. #GeneralAviation #Cessna172 whiskeyalphapilot.com/touch-…
Who forgot the battery? Me. The Moxy is a CO detector that runs inline with your headset, so a warning lands in your ears rather than the cockpit floor. Never found out if it works. Nine volt, not included, no spare in the bag.

Soft tyre on KK. Should have been five minutes. Was not five minutes.
The pump hid. The valve hid. Shoving a ton of aircraft while fingering a tiny flap is not fun. I hate Spats. hen who forgot the rear tiedown

Nellie B at Duxford yesterday. A P-47 Thunderbolt goes past and you feel it before you hear it. Eighteen cylinders. My 172 has four, and I'm proud of every one of them. ✈️ #Duxford #Warbirds #GeneralAviation
Flying with my shoulder harness off, and the keyboard warriors keep pulling me up on it. A Delta flight finally made me reconsider. New logbook post: seatbelts, habits, and going a bit green in an Extra. ✈️ whiskeyalphapilot.com/touch-…
Thirteen questions. Twenty minutes. The CAA says it especially wants to hear from owners of older, lower value aircraft.
A fifth of a 1977 Cessna on a pad at Elstree. That's the aircraft they're asking about.

The CAA wants every aircraft below FL100 transmitting. I read CAP3268 so you don't have to.
My SkyEcho is already compliant. Great. Nobody is obliged to look at it.
Legal, but still half invisible. #GeneralAviation #ADSB

Signed up for a #GeneralAviation webinar expecting an hour of PowerPoint. Got Sleap's airfield manager explaining why lookout matters when 30 helicopters are on a frequency you can't hear. Also learned you can say "standby" to ATC. Who knew? ✈️
