He says the name just fine when he’s begging the Qataris for a personal jet or the Saudis for funding for his son-in-law’s private equity firm. Wonder what’s changed?
Trump on El-Sayed: "His name is actually Abduladadalalalala. It's Adulbabababababa Mohammed Al-Sayed. So his middle name is Mohammed. So I was right. He's a jihadist."

Chrétien: I have a message for American friends. Yes, Canada is a generous, open country, and Canadians are tolerant and kind. But never mistake our generosity for weakness. Never, never mistake our tolerance for lack of determination. And never, never mistake our kindness for softness. We embrace our friends and we help them in their moment of need. But we bow to no one. The more we are insulted or threatened and abused, the more we will stand up for ourselves and stand united.

🟥 WOW… Prime Minster Mark Carney’s video today “Forward Guidance”, to rally Canadians, is one of the best addresses by any world leader, ever, to their citizens. 🍁 It is an eloquent and inspiring ‘call to arms’ for our national participation in economic renewal, prosperity building, and sovereignty protection. It is undeniable. We have the right leader, at the right time. 👌🏻 🔳 “Our forebearers understood that building this improbable country in an inhospitable land wouldn't always be easy. But they also knew they could rely on one of Canadian's strongest traits: Resilience. Canada Strong isn't about just withstanding this crisis, it's about coming out of it stronger, more resilient, more independent than when we started. It's about ensuring that no country can hold us hostage. And that we can live how we want to live.”

APPLEBAUM: If you look at Russian system, or how Trump tries to communicate in a world where there's plethora of media, lots of information everywhere, they try to sort of pollute the system. Bannon calls it "flooding the zone with shit," others call it "firehose of falsehoods." If you keep repeating things that are lies, or half-truths, or inaccuracies over and over again, sooner or later, you get people to tune out. In a world where we have so much information and so much access to so much all the time, this has been proven the most effective way for autocrats to stay in power. What's the function of doing that, and why do people do it? They do it in order to build nihilism, to build disinterest. If you're bombarded all day long with lies, and you can see they're lies, and they sound strange, and you don't understand them, then sooner or later, you'll just tune it out. You'll say, "I don't understand what's going on, I don't know what's true and what's not true, I just want to stay out of politics and mind my own business." That's what modern autocrat wants. They want you to have no agency, they want you to stay outside of politics, they want you not to be part of politics at all. You almost don't need a political leader to feed you falsehoods all the time, because in modern social media your algorithm will do it for you. So, one of the effects of modern social media has also been to confuse people about what's true and what's not true, to undermine idealism, and to make people more cynical.

I am so weary of hearing Canada is picking fights with Trump. We have had restrained responses to every one of Trump's attacks. Every single fight was initiated by the Trump administration. All the ones taken to US courts were deemed violations of the treaty or the US constution. So let's review 6 years of Donald Trump's attacks on Canada.

In one glorious nutshell by Andrew Nagy. Read of the day.
Beyond pathetic. Trump wouldn’t leave the podium during Spain’s World Cup trophy celebration until FIFA President Gianni Infantino pulled him away.

Make no mistake: destroying world-class universities, like the US just did with Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, isn't just an attack on Iran but it's literally an attack on all of us, on all of humanity. It's not Iran that "won" when Maryam Mirzakhani made her discoveries that won her a Fields Medal: it's all of mathematics, and everything mathematics is used for. Human progress won, technology won, we all won. It's the same type of stuff the Mongols did during the sack of Baghdad and their destruction of the House of Wisdom: we ALL lost something irreplaceable back then, entire fields of human knowledge set back. That's what bombing a university does. It doesn't just destroy buildings. It destroys us, all of us.
Alma mater of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to win the mathematics Fields Medal.

Trump’s billionaire allies will now own CNN, Fox News, CBS, WaPo, WSJ and NY Post — plus 185+ local tv stations and news in 100 markets. They also control X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, TikTok, Truth and Twitch. They control the AI you're integrating into your lives, the algorithms feeding you content, and your personal data you've given up for access. This is all by design to manipulate and surveil us, and we’re not talking enough about it. Pay attention.
