I can't wait to read these essays forwards and backwards, to sit and walk with them. I'm utterly delighted to be in such company. With more deeply-deserved thanks to @warthurw, @anniemcclanahan, and the @Post_45 team -- one of the most exciting journals around!

Something I hear a lot is, "It would be easier to speak out on Palestine if I were Jewish." And when this comes from white people, not Palestinians, let me assure you: No it would not. 1/🧵

“Criminalizing peaceful sit-ins is a sharp departure from Princeton’s past. It strays dangerously from long-standing models of educational leadership and casts a shameful cloud over university culture and values into the future.” @KeithWailoo dailyprincetonian.com/articl…

I’m a historian of US foreign relations and modern international politics, and there is literally no other political situation anywhere in the world in the last 130 years where the US said it has no leverage and can do nothing to shape the behavior of another state.
Sullivan puts it quite clearly: as far as Biden is concerned, it’s entirely up to Israel what happens to Palestinians, and the US has no plans to use its vast leverage to make them deliver even an ounce of peace and justice.

Since October 7th, I've joined protests, fundraising events for Gaza, and students on campuses. As a Jew and someone who has a ton of friends and family in Israel, I want to share some thoughts on claims of antisemitism in the movement and student encampments: 1/29

I read through some of Sami Schalk's threads and comments about her protest experience yesterday where she was injured by police. Half of them are just calling her fat and insulting her. This one just says Fat. I don't know what to make of this world.

Amazing how many people in this country have internalized the idea that if you break the law, you don't just get arrested, but that police have the right to beat the shit out of you in the process, tase you, break your bones.

Here’s a quick thread clarifying the AAUP’s stance on antisemitism. The AAUP views the growth of antisemitism as a severe threat which can & should be addressed under existing civil rights laws as religious or race discrimination. 🧵
