When Senators and Congressional Reps "serve" in Congress for 30 - 40 yrs, they lose all perspective of what life is like for normal people.
Their friendships and personal circles shift away from their districts - to their new Rich "friends" (donors and lobbyists) in DC who always have lots of money to spend on them.
REALLY REALLY Need TERM LIMITS!!
LASIK eye surgery costs roughly $2,100 per eye today. In 1998, it cost $2,200 per eye. Adjusted for inflation, you are paying about 60% less for a procedure that has simultaneously become faster, safer, and more precise. That is what markets do when left alone.
Now compare that to a hearing aid. The FDA classified hearing aids as prescription medical devices for decades, locking you into audiologist appointments before you could buy a $3,000 device that a manufacturer could produce for $300. Or, look at insulin. Heavily regulated, patent-extended, and politically manipulated, a vial of Humalog ran over $330 in 2024 versus roughly $21 in Canada for a biosimilar. Same molecule. Different regulatory environment.
LASIK sits in a peculiar gap. Insurers rarely cover it, which means third-party payment schemes never severed the price signal between provider and patient. You shop, clinics compete, manufacturers race to improve technology. The feedback loop that markets depend on functions exactly as it should.
Regulated medical markets break that loop deliberately. The FDA's approval process costs pharmaceutical companies over $2.6 billion per new drug on average, erecting barriers that protect incumbents and punish smaller competitors who cannot absorb a decade of compliance costs. Patients then pay the premium on the back end.
LASIK is the control in the experiment. The market won.

I think people could live 300 years or more.
David Sinclair has already reversed the age of mice with reprogramming. That work has since moved to dogs and primates. In our own work we're seeing about three to five years of age reversal for every year of treatment.
Supplements like alpha-ketoglutarate, TMG and PQQ slow the aging process. Spermidine and fisetin help kill off older cells. Off-label drugs like tranylcypromine, valproic acid and sodium butyrate switch younger genes back on.
Furthermore, I see aging and cancer as very similar diseases. Cancer cells carry many of the same receptors as old cells. The drugs that extend life expectancy also tend to fight cancer.
As drugs and protocols that support longevity become more widely available, I believe people who reverse their age will be less likely to get cancer.

Seriously, shut up.
The amount of taxes we have to pay is ridiculous. Let me lay it out for ya, son.
I work hard all week and earn a salary, which comes in a biweekly paycheck. But before I see a cent of it, the federal government takes its share. Depending on your income bracket, they take 10–37% of that right off the top. Then, it gets taxed again at 15.3% for FICA: 12.4% gets stolen for Social Security and 2.9% goes to Medicare.
Then depending on which state you live in, you might be required to pay state income tax. States like Florida and Tennessee have none, some have a flat rate (e.g., Idaho and Georgia), and others have progressive rates based on income brackets. In California, high income earners take a 13.3% hit.
Then after the federal and state governments have gotten their greedy hands on my paycheck, suppose I decide to be responsible and save a portion of what's left in a savings account and earn a little interest on it. Guess what? The IRS wants a cut of that, too. So, the money I earned that was already taxed is now subject to the same income taxes.
Let's now suppose I decide to invest some of that in the stock market. I buy shares in a company (e.g., Tesla), take on the risk of losing my investment, and hopefully make a profit. Well, if I sell those shares for a gain, Uncle Sam comes knocking on my door again. Depending on how long I held the investment and my taxable income, I may owe 0%, 15%, or 20% in federal long-term capital gains taxes, potentially another 3.8% in net investment income tax, plus applicable state taxes. And short-term gains can be taxed at the ordinary income tax rates of 10–37%.
And if I decide to spend my money? You guessed it. More taxes, baby! 45 states and many localities impose sales taxes, meaning I get taxed again when I buy groceries, clothes, household appliances, consumer electronics, and practically anything else. In some places, the combined state and local sales taxes exceed 10%. Louisiana's sales tax alone is 10.11%!
Wanna buy a house with the money you have spent years saving? Congratulations, bucko! Now you're responsible for paying property taxes, which you will be obligated to pay every single year. And if you fail to pay it for long enough, you will eventually lose the property through a tax sale or foreclosure. So much for actually owning something, right?
Wanna buy a vehicle? Depending on your state, you may owe sales tax and annual registration fees. And in some states (my home state of Virginia comes to mind), you are required to pay property taxes on that, too. Then, every time you fill up your tank at the pump, you have to pay gas taxes. The federal government collects $0.18 / gallon, and state and local governments pile their own taxes on top of that.
Now, suppose I decide not to spend or invest any of my remaining money at all. I just keep it in cash. Well, inflation gradually erodes its purchasing power away year after year. It's not an enforced tax, but a hidden one that the federal government has done nothing to stop because we're no longer on the Gold Standard and we run massive deficits each year that is financed by monetary expansion (i.e., “printing”) to pay for socialist welfare and wealth transfer programs as well as endless wars in the Middle East.
The bottom line is that I get taxed when I work hard and earn money. I get taxed again on the interest when I save that money. I get taxed a third time on the profits when I invest it. I get taxed when I spend it. I get taxed for “owning” property. And I get taxed when I drive.
And yes, I'm much aware that we need at least some taxation to pay for things like national defense, public roads, and basic services to have a functioning society. Nobody really disagrees with that. But it does not mean every tax is justified or that the government should have an unlimited claim on the fruits of our labor. And if you look at the state of our roads in many states (Pennsylvania and New York's roads suck ass, Alabama's are nice, however) and public schools, it's abundantly clear that our tax dollars aren't being used wisely.
Our founding fathers waged a revolution against Great Britain over far less atrocities than this.
Replying to @ChrisMartzWX
Seizing the house is simpler to enforce. And good lord, will you people grow up? A healthy society has public goods. That requires taxation, you goddam baby.

It really amazes me how many alleged “conservatives” tell me that we need to raise taxes to pay down the national debt instead of cutting spending because “cutting spending will never happen.”
I’ll concede that they are right about the latter (mostly because we can no longer get a supermajority and Republicans are almost unanimously spineless cowards), but that doesn’t mean I think that tax rates should be hiked.
If you are for higher taxes, then you aren’t a conservative, and I don’t care if we agree on 99% of other issues.

Premise:
Incentives drive all human behavior.
The corollary:
How to destroy a country:
A vast social security and support system that serves as a magnet for those who would rather not work.
An open immigration policy that does not screen immigrants to determine their ability and willingness to provide for themselves and their families.
An open immigration policy that does not screen for political and/or religious ideologies that are a threat to the country.
Economic incentives large enough to incentivize immigrants on the state dole to have large numbers of children, but insufficient for educated and economically productive mothers to be able to quit to raise a family.
The declining fertility of the most educated and productive women due to their delay to begin a family as a result of their desire and/or need to advance their careers, among other reasons, to live a life they deem consistent with their educational achievements and/or to repay their student debts.
Amnesty programs that give citizenship and voting power to illegal immigrants without consideration of their economic productivity or their threat to the country due to their religious or political ideologies.
The changing demographics and increased population due to the above factors.
The state responding to protests by increasing social support.
The continued failure to punish and hold accountable violent and looting rioters.
Government managed by a massive and growing unelected bureaucracy.
Government fraud, waste, and abuse contributed to ballooning budgets.
Anti-business legislation that makes it difficult for businesses to compete in a global marketplace being disrupted by AI, including restrictions on firing even poorly performing employees.
Overly burdensome, globally uncompetitive, corporate taxation.
Continuous increases in personal taxes to raise funds to provide for the rapidly growing welfare state.
The substantial majority of the tax burden levied on a small percentage of the population.
A growing percentage of the electorate paying no taxes and receiving welfare.
The introduction or threat of a wealth tax including the taxation of unrealized gains, i.e., taxes on paper wealth.
The flight of the most productive business builders and highest taxpayers to lower tax countries with lesser security concerns.
A growing percentage of the electorate voting for candidates that support increased welfare and laws favorable to, and/or that match the cultural and ideological needs and desires of a growing unproductive immigrant population.
The rapid rise in anti-semitism and inadequate efforts to address this hatred.
Increased borrowing by the state to fund the growing social burden.
Higher sovereign interest rates due to all of the above.
The resulting need to reduce expenditures to make the math work.
Increasingly violent protests that make life less livable for the productive and law abiding citizens leading to their accelerated departure.
And so on…

John Adams in 1776
His arguments against giving women, children, and poor men the right to vote:
"But why exclude Women? You will say, because their delicacy renders them unfit for practice and experience, in the great business of life, and the hardy enterprizes of war, as well as the arduous cares of State. Besides, their attention is so much engaged with the necessary nurture of their children, that nature has made them fittest for domestic cares.
But will not these reasons apply to others? Is it not equally true, that men in general in every society, who are wholly destitute of property, are also too little acquainted with public affairs to form a right judgment, and too dependent upon other men to have a will of their own? If this is a fact, if you give to every man, who has no property, a vote, will you not make a fine encouraging provision for corruption?
There will be no end of it. New claims will arise. Women will demand a vote. Lads from 12 to 21 will think their rights not enough attended to, and every man, who has not a farthing, will demand an equal voice with any other in all acts of State."

🚨🚨 BREAKING: Venezuela’s former intelligence leader Hugo Carvajal has CONFIRMED that Democrat Senator Adam Schiff and Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell, both of California, are two of the top names on the VENEZUELA LIST of US politicians that are receiving MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN KICKBACKS AND LAVISH GIFTS from the Maduro regime and Venezuelan drug trafficking organizations in exchange for using their official power as a means of undermining the Trump administration’s ongoing war against these narcoterrorists. They literally have the blood of hundreds of thousands of Americans who are dying from drug overdoses every year as a result of the deadly drugs that these criminal organizations are trafficking into our country on their hands. This is textbook TREASON and AIDING AND ABETTING THE ENEMY during a time of war while assisting in the deaths of our own American citizens. All for personal wealth and financial gain. Schiff has reportedly had a multi-million dollar vacation home purchased for him by the Venezuelan government on the California coast while Swalwell has received luxurious items including gold bars and diamond jewelry in exchange for his treason. The dollar value that these two Benedict Arnolds have racked up is well in to the MILLIONS, according to Carvajal. He is in federal prison now in the US and EXPOSING EVERYTHING. This isn’t about a war crime… This is a distraction and a “cover your ass” operation by the Deep State thugs who have been taking bribes from the enemy at our country’s expense.
