This would assume a level of competence in strategic planning that we are yet to see any evidence of being present

Here's an extraordinarily cynical take: did the government talk up the likelihood of a manifesto-breaking income tax rise in the knowledge that it would push down gilt yields in the window the OBR will use for its forecasts?

Fascinating data driven piece on the collapse in quality across all areas of public service “ The public is voting with their wallets, too—private-sector alternatives to the state are doing exceptionally well”
A under-discussed backdrop to yesterday's election results—Britain today feels less pleasant, well-maintained and orderly than a decade ago: from potholes to phone-snatchers. I've spent the past few months digging in to why for @TheEconomist. A short 🧵 on what I've concluded.

A great piece from @irishexaminer highlights the €5.46bn value of physical activity to Ireland’s economy. Our CEO Karl Dunne welcomed the gov’t’s commitment to a tax credit for gym membership—a measure we’ve long advocated to drive participation. irishexaminer.com/business/e…

Imagine the joke if they find out what community wellbeing, sports, leisure facilities cost in the UK vs facilities far superior across Europe…
Replying to @Sam_Dumitriu
The NIC find that the UK's infrastructure cost problem is not universal, but isolated to certain types of project. Building nuclear power stations, new high speed railways, and electrifying existing railways is signficantly more expensive in the UK than elsewhere.

How many fully inspired parents out there desperate to give their little kids a chance to taste each of these activities yet still clueless of the way to make it happen? Still?

Very refreshing to have a Secretary of State who understands the value and power of community leisure thanks to years of backing and support of Pete Burt & the team in Wigan.
From rugby league to Royal Opera, our cultural and sporting heritage runs through our towns, villages and cities and is one of our country’s greatest assets. It is an unbelievable privilege to take on the role of Secretary of State @DCMS . The hard work begins today.

Someone somewhere should net out the economic impact were this green immigration not present in these past few years. I believe it could quite clearly show the economic component of immigration which never reaches the public discourse.
This is a dramatic change, and not the kind of change that people who voted for Brexit were hoping for.

After 18 seasons home and away, this is me checking out of Leeds United. It's been barry™️. And the pleasure's been all mine. As a final piece, I wrote about what all that time and all those games taught me about LUFC. Never change. nytimes.com/athletic/5542160…

“Angry and upset” sums up my position on the situation for as long as I can now remember. Politics aside, irrespective of political party, progress has to start from a realisation and acceptance of the reality of where we are, otherwise the delusion continues
Devastating from Dame Louise Casey on Sunak.

One of the attractions of the U.K. to live, invest & grow businesses is the stability of domestic institutions & respect for international standards & frameworks. Seven years of this type of melodramatic stuff has unfortunately diluted/clouded that attraction.
