Tesla has been testing FSD on Japanese public roads since August 2025, taking on notoriously tricky conditions like ultra-narrow streets and complex multi-level interchanges beneath elevated expressways. Navigating the terrain, however, is only half the battle. Even when the vision-based AI calculates that a maneuver is completely safe, that move doesn't always strictly align with local traffic regulations. Tesla is actively running local validation and model training to iron out those legal edge cases. Hashimoto admitted that hitting the 2026 deadline won't be a walk in the park. Safety remains paramount, and Tesla is deep in discussions with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and other regulatory bodies to secure regulatory approval. Still, Hashimoto highlighted what he views as Tesla’s decisive trump card: a pure-vision AI architecture powered by massive streams of real-world fleet data. That data flywheel gives Tesla a significant head start just as domestic Japanese automakers prepare to roll out their own competing systems in 2027 and beyond. And the ambitions don't stop there. Hashimoto signaled genuine interest in eventually bringing the purpose-built Cybercab to Japanese shores—though getting FSD (Supervised) across the finish line comes first. Here it is. @Tesla FSD V14.3 Lite for Legacy Model S & X with vertical displays. It has given these vehicles a whole new life. 10+ year-old cars with upgraded hardware can now run FSD V14. It is missing some features like Arrival Options and Start from Park, which will probably be added in future releases.
