It's weird. I spent so long telling myself it would all be better once I was 18 and could "run away" from my parents. Yet here I am at 21, still as confused, frightened and directionless as ever. And even when I go to church seeking guidance/answers, I feel judged.

The more I see of the internet the more I "turtle up". There's just too much vitriol online and the second you say something even lukewarm, people will gladly strawman you and put words in your mouth. Not to mention, people refuse to let others grow out of their past and change

The older I get, the more I realize just how unique my childhood was. Not many people are part-homeschooled only children who moved almost every year for the better part of their childhood AND had 1 poor-ish Pentecostal gay/ex-gay(?) and 1 upper-middle ex-theist straight parent

(And even amongst that crowd, I don't think very many had the experience of "The Pandemic" hitting less than two grades back into public school and ruining their idea of a "normal high-school experience")

Stepping away from most "furry" friend groups really has helped me. A lot of the people I used to be friends with were actually really bad influences in one way or another and slowly I became a more political, apathetic, bitter and edgy person.

I won't be told who to hate anymore. I won't force myself to stick around people who step on me, put me down, & encourage bad behaviors. I won't be made to shut up when I know something's not right. Pleasing people & Winning arguments isn't what's important; PEOPLE are.
