Flávio Bolsonaro: “Lula, você pode explicar por que 73% dos presidiários votaram em você?” Lula responde: “Eu quero que vote 100%, até seu pai.” #Eleicoes2026

White people be like “I emailed Saddam Hussein after 9/11 to see if we could work things out between him and America”
Saddam Hussein emails a random American citizen, Christopher Love of Pennsylvania, who tried to contact Hussein earlier this month, to express his personal condolences for the September 11 attacks. “Dear brother in the family of mankind,” the email reads in part, “I am presenting my condolences to you. God has created us, and to God we return. May you have a long life.”

Authoritarianism sounds great when you imagine a competent technocrat like Lee Kuan Yew running the country, not so much when you remember the same system can leave you stuck with a Gaddafi or a Mobutu for decades with virtually no way to get rid of him lmao
Incredibly blackpilling as a liberal democracy fan that liberal democracies always see big protests, changes of governments, disorder, getting nothing done, etc. while authoritarian regimes can occasionally just bypass all that

Tbf what options does Egypt even have here? I mean when your economy basically lives off Gulf depositis, investments and remittances. deploying a few air defence systems and military personnel to help intercept incoming missiles and drones seems like a pretty fair deal ngl
🚨 Egypt’s National Defence Council, chaired by President El-Sisi, approves deploying troops in Saudi Arabia. Parliament due to convene for emergency session today to authorise defensive measures to support the kingdom

Ironically, the closest thing to “dig a hole, fill it in, GDP goes up” is the public sector.
Leftists live in a world where capitalists are the most greedy people ever and will do anything to maximize profits but also pay people to dig holes around for no reason

It just goes to show how little human capital matters when ur economy and institutions can’t put it to productive use. We can produce the world’s highest shares of science and engineering graduates and still struggle to get the basics of a functioning 21st century country right
#Tunisia ranked 1st worldwide for the proportion of science and engineering graduates among higher education graduates, at 37.93%, ahead of #Uzbekistan 2nd (36.76%) and the #UAE (36.45%), according to the @WIPO Global Innovation Index. #TAP_En

Genuinely never understood this logic. You’d rather have Pakistan’s ability to produce its own tanks and jets than Singapore living standards? What’s the point of manufacturing your own weapons if the tradeoff is a much poorer population and significantly worse quality of life?
My country is higher GDP than Pakistan and yet Pakistan have nuclear weapons and could produce their own tanks, jets and submarines while we unable to complete even one frigate that has been building since 2010s. GDP is not a good indicator of industrial capacity

Is that tank going to be your train to work? Is that jet going to be the road you drive on? Is that submarine going to be the hospital you go to? Is that missile going to pay your salary?

Europe’s industrial capacity means little if Africa can establish air superiority. You can churn out all the tanks and ammo you want but modern jets and precision strikes could cripple your factories and supply lines before that industrial advantage even comes into play lmao

Ok so a truce with the Houthis while they still hold Mokha and have leverage over Bab el Mandeb is obv off the table. Containment might’ve been enough for Saudi before, but if the Houthis keep expanding their leverage, how long until saudi decides to go all in on Yemen?
Yemen’s Houthis struck Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, directly hitting Terminal 3, causing injuries and forcing its evacuation. Saudi officials are increasingly concerned that continued attacks could damage the economy, disrupt tourism and business travel, and strain limited missile interceptor supplies. Source: WSJ

Almost double the money spent on fuel subsidies than on investment in a shithole still lacking basic infrastructure. And this is only the first half of the year. Higher oil prices will push the full year bill to 11 billion 😂
#Tunisia: Fuel subsidy spending hit TND 2.427bn in H1, exceeding development expenditure by TND 762M, while overall subsidy spending rose 12% to TND 3.486bn, with fuel subsidies reaching 48.6% of annual budget forecast amid higher oil prices, said the Finance Ministry. #TAP_En
