The most common myth about pregnancy and vitiligo:
"You're guaranteed to pass it to your child."
The actual science:
• Child's lifetime risk: ~5-7%
• Identical twin concordance: only ~23%
Genes load the dice, they don't write the script.

We talk about vitiligo as if it’s one condition. But what if it’s not?
What if some patients are actually experiencing different biological versions of vitiligo and that’s why treatments can work so differently from person to person?

“Why is there still no cure for vitiligo?”
It's not because Big Pharma is hiding a magic pill.
It's because healthcare systems run on competing incentives-where pharma, researchers, and insurers all optimize for their own targets while patients wait.

Vitamin D Megadoses for Vitiligo: Hope, Hype, or Hospital Trip?
VitD may help your immune system. That does NOT mean more is better.
Every year we hear from vitiligo patients taking massive doses of vitamin D after discovering the Coimbra Protocol online.
Some report benefits. Others never hear about the kidney stones, hypercalcemia, lab monitoring, strict diets, and unanswered questions.
So we reviewed the evidence.
✔️ What vitamin D actually does in vitiligo
✔️ The famous Brazilian high-dose study
✔️ The science behind the Coimbra Protocol
✔️ Real safety concerns and who should avoid it
✔️ Why correcting deficiency is not the same as megadosing
The verdict? Promising biology. Interesting signals.
But NOT SAFE to make high-dose vitamin D standard vitiligo therapy.

Splinters, Ridges & Half-Moons: The Secret Life of Vitiligo Nails
Vitiligo affects melanocytes, and yes, they live in the nail matrix too. Ridges, white spots, missing half-moons, and even tiny splinter hemorrhages appear more often in studies.
Most are mild. Many have boring explanations: trauma, aging, thyroid overlap, or just normal nail weirdness.
No panic. No Morse code from your cuticles.

What if some of the most popular “immune-boosting” herbs are quietly working against your skin color?
Ginseng. Bacopa (Brahmi). Licorice root.
All have impressive wellness reputations. Some may also affect the same pigment pathways vitiligo treatments are trying to restore.
Natural doesn’t automatically mean helpful.

Some conversations from World Vitiligo Day 2026 simply needed more time.
Chandigarh gave us four remarkable days filled with groundbreaking science, lively debates, and unforgettable moments.
Yet one important topic deserved far more space than a packed program could allow:
What does life with vitiligo really look like? 📷
The patient sessions were among the most engaging parts of the conference, but they also left us wanting more. The conversation around the Patient Journey was simply too important to squeeze into a few sessions.
So we’re continuing it.
🌴 World Vitiligo Day 2026 continues in Goa
October 31 – November 1
This 1½-day gathering will shift the focus from the science of vitiligo to the human side — the real-life experiences of people living with the condition every day.
Together we will:
🧭 Explore the interactive Vitiligo Patient Journey Map
🗺 Launch the National Vitiligo Atlas of India
🔭 Introduce the Global Vitiligo Observatory
🌍 Announce the host city for World Vitiligo Day 2027
This is more than another meeting. It is an opportunity to ask better questions, listen more deeply, and build the knowledge and connections that can improve lives for years to come.

History has a funny habit of revealing new chapters when you least expect it.
We’ve just updated the official History of World Vitiligo Day thanks to Dr. Maya Tulpule, who has been at the forefront of the vitiligo movement in India for many years.
During World Vitiligo Day 2026 in Chandigarh, Dr. Tulpule shared important historical details that helped us trace the origins of Vitiligo Day in India back to 2005–2006, when IADVL established India’s National Vitiligo Day on May 19. It’s a fascinating piece of history that had never fully made its way into the global story.
One of the things we love most about documenting this movement is that history isn’t set in stone. As new documents surface and the pioneers themselves share their memories, we get a chance to make the record more complete—and more accurate.
A huge Thank You to Dr. Maya Tulpule for helping us preserve this important chapter of the global vitiligo movement.

That inbox question never really went away. No solid evidence ordinary antiperspirants cause vitiligo — but angry, irritated underarms can absolutely trigger new patches or help it spread.

57%.
That’s the share of internet traffic now generated by bots, not humans.
We just became the minority in our own digital ecosystem.
The real story isn’t the bots. It’s that the internet is quietly changing what it’s for — from humans finding information to machines finding it for humans.
The machines won the traffic war.
Doesn’t mean they get the last word on reality.
I explore this idea in a new opinion piece:
