Today, Azov celebrates its 12th anniversary. Years after the heroic defence of Mariupol, the unit - now the Corps - continues to fight for Ukraine in one of the most difficult parts of the frontline. The russian thug-in-chief once claimed that Azov "controls" Ukraine. Recently, the enemy's propaganda outlets blabbered that Azov was reaping loads of funds through a "financial network" abroad to procure military tech. The truth is simpler: the Corps is painstakingly developing its innovative capabilities thanks to our brilliant officers, engineers and operators. The Corps is scaling up its unmanned systems, electronic warfare and air defence -- working together with Ukrainian and foreign companies and sharing its expertise with our military partners. Instead of waiting for the "next big thing" in the military technology domain, our servicemen are actually creating that "big thing" themselves. You can support them by donating to our official charity fund, Azov One (follow the link below) - or simply by sharing this fundraiser. Every single effort helps a lot.

As a result of the long-awaited exchange, 61 service members of Military Unit 3057 returned home, 35 of them Azov Regiment fighters. In total, Ukraine brought back 261 service members of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and nine civilians. After the extremely difficult defense of Mariupol, our brothers-in-arms spent more than four years in Russian captivity. They endured inhumane detention conditions and terrible ordeals, yet kept their strength of spirit and their loyalty to their oath. Welcome home, brothers-in-arms! We thank everyone who works on exchanges, replenishes the exchange fund, and looks for new solutions to bring Ukrainian troops home. More than 500 Azov service members still remain in captivity. Bringing home every Ukrainian defender must be a state priority, and exchanges must take place systematically until the last prisoner of war returns. We continue fighting for the return of all our fighters!

Many American and European drones provided to Ukrainian units continue to fail or perform poorly. The same drones are being procured by NATO militaries. The companies that are succeeding have developed strong relationships with elite Ukrainian units and respond quickly to the feedback from Ukrainian operators. They benefit from Ukrainian expertise and the rapid innovation cycle in Ukraine. Battlefield performance in Ukraine should be one of the primary factors for future procurement choices by NATO militaries.
Talked to someone recently who knows a lot about defense tech, and he made an interesting point: the test of most military hardware right now is whether the Ukrainians want it. They have a hot war going against a determined opponent, and they know what works.

"Of course, it is exhausting, having to reason all the time in a universe which wasn't meant to be reasonable". Such a brilliant line by Vonnegut.

The advance of two armies and a tank division of the Russian armed forces was repelled: forces of the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine destroyed dozens of units of equipment and a large number of occupier personnel. On July 22, the occupiers, using forces of the 8th and 41st Armies along with the 90th Tank Division, attempted an assault in the sector held by the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, involving dozens of units of armored and light vehicles. The 41st Guards Combined Arms Army and the 90th Guards Vitebsk-Novgorod Tank Division of the Russian armed forces advanced from the area of the settlement of Novoekonomichne, while forces of the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army simultaneously advanced from the area of the village of Vozdvyzhenka. For four hours, they attempted to enter settlements in the area of the village of Shakhove. The enemy attempted to deny the sky to Ukrainian forces using "Gerbera" and "Lancet" strike drones. A modern Russian "Tornado-S" MLRS, which was being used to support the assault, was also destroyed. Forces of the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, together with attached units, blocked the path of the advancing mechanized columns. Mine-explosive obstacles were laid on the approaches to the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and bridges were damaged by tactical aviation. During the assault, the Russians attempted to restore the crossings using pontoons, but these were destroyed by tactical aviation of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). As a result of the professional actions of all units involved under the command of the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, using barrel artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, and attack drones, the following were destroyed: 7 tanks, 6 armored combat vehicles, 1 BM-21 "Grad" MLRS, 1 "Tornado-S" MLRS, 3 units of special equipment, and 47 units of light vehicles. 123 occupiers were eliminated, and 29 were wounded. The mechanized assault was repelled. We thank the units of the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, the SBU's "A" Special Operations Center, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Air Force of the AFU, units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in particular the Main Department of Unmanned Aerial Systems "Fenix," units of the National Guard of Ukraine, and units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their professional and courageous actions. Always ready to repel the enemy's assault through joint efforts!

Today is an important day for the civilian oversight of the military and the accountability of military command in Ukraine. And hopefully, an impetus for a true reform of Ukraine's Defense Forces — which is long overdue.

Madyar reports that russians are redeploying a significant number of their Rubicon detachments from the frontline to protect their shadow fleet from Ukrainian strikes. It is hard to overestimate how significant this news is: the level of alarm of russian leadership must be off-the-charts

This article is quite a useful read for those who believe that russia will not dare open a new front against NATO members as long as it continues its war in Ukraine. This observation is particularly spot-on when it comes to the way that the russians are likely to be assessing the level of readiness of NATO armed Forces in case of such an attack: "NATO militaries are not pursuing the larger force sizes that would enable them to hold the line, or the mass adoption of drones and drone formations within their force structure that would allow them to achieve effects similar to those of the Ukrainian Armed Forces" warontherocks.com/a-return-t…

The most interesting geopolitical and geoeconomic lesson of the H1 of 2026 is: Ukraine has isolated Russia from logistical routes in/around the Black Sea (Crimea), while the US, Israel and the Gulf have collectively failed to prevent Iran from chocking off log routes in Hormuz

Russia’s ability to fuel and defend their occupation of Crimea is being degraded day by day. Bridges, roads, rail, air defenses, ammo, fuel depots, trucks all going up in flames. And Ukraine is still saving the best for last. The Kerch countdown is running.
