I’m really pleased to share the publication of our collaborative study on Slamet volcano!
This work was the culmination of my PhD, and represents a big step forward in our understanding of Slamet’s melt storage and eruptive potential:

ALT Schematic figure from a scientific paper. Shows the magma plumbing system of a volcano, with representations of magma made by elongate ellipses that are colored according to their composition. The composition of olivine minerals is shown in cartoon form, demonstrating what magma plumbing processes transport specific subsets of the olivine crystal cargo to particular eruptive vents.

- Reykjanes eruption continues at a lower intensity from confined craters
- Magma source interpreted to be from Svartsengi where it's been accumulating since 2020
- Lava area estimated 3.7 km2 and hasn't grown much since the first night of the eruption

You've heard of the Pacific Ring of Fire. But you haven't heard of the Southeast Asian Ring of Fire! That's because we're defining it for the first time in our new blog post. We think these two features are distinct in important ways - check it out (link in my bio).

NEW: Ever since magma rose toward Grindavík - then paused - some have asked: how have the peninsula’s eruptions gone from spectacles to potential disasters?
Here’s why answering that, and forecasting what will happen next, is difficult.
