Settling into the full board meeting for Virginia Tech’s board of visitors, who will be discussing increases in student fees. We pay nearly 3k a year in fees, a significant chunk of our grad student wages, and we are showing up in protest #VTBOV

Call for submissions at ANMLY: it’s a good day to be trans! Lately, it seems we can’t go on the internet or step outside without being reminded of trans suffering. To combat this, let’s highlight the joy we experience, written by us and for us More: medium.com/anomalyblog/call-…

I NEED you to know that the most banned book in the U.S. was written by an asexual, nonbinary author and bigots are calling it grooming and pornography.
Maia Kobabe set out to express an experience with gender identity. The graphic memoir Gender Queer is now the most banned book in the United States, according to the American Library Association. n.pr/3jTXWw0

If asexuality, education on the asexual spectrum, awareness and acceptance, can help push forward that bodily autonomy is more important than a right to sex, that sex is not a human right… that’s a good thing. That’s a GREAT thing. I hope we keep the conversation going. 🧵/end

People talk about sex as if it’s a human right, as if not getting it is traumatizing, as if people having less sex is some horrible thing. But it’s just people asserting themselves and their bodily autonomy as being more important than the “right to sex”. 🧵/

I’d argue that more people saying “no, you don’t automatically have access to my body just because we’re dating/married/etc”, more conversations about consent, education of asexuality leading to people standing up for themselves — these all seem very good to me. 🧵/

The expectation of sex is so ingrained that a lot of the “why don’t you try it” language and pressure that aces are met with is also used towards allos by allo partners. It’s seen as a way to say you care about the others needs — but what about your own? 🧵/

This expands into being allosexual (which is just to say not anywhere under the asexuality umbrella). There is often an expectation of sex that can weigh heavily on a relationship. Dating someone who experiences sexual attraction shouldn’t mean you EXPECT sex with them.🧵/

If we are sex favorable, or even neutral, then we’re considered to be “less ace” or “not really ace”, as if there is some kind of hierarchy of aceness. It happened on one of my threads about a similar topic topic recently. 🧵/
Replying to @scretladyspider
This is literally what I’m talking about. Here you’re saying “action equals attraction”. “Leading an allosexual lifestyle” is also the exact same as “that bi person married the opposite gender and so they’re not bi”. Also if it is a phase… is that really bad? People can change.

If we’re considered attractive, then we’re being rude by flaunting our bodies and owning our sexuality. If we’re not considered attractive, it’s “oh you’re only ace because no one wants to sleep with you.” Never mind how we might feel about it.🧵/

There’s an expectation of access to our bodies. Not just from partners, but from medical professionals who ask why we don’t have it, from parents who ask why we’re still single or don’t have kids yet, from friends who imply that heartbreak is our fault for not “putting out”. 🧵/

First of all: NO ONE has a right to sex. EVERYONE has the right to say no. You cannot argue for all parties being consenting and then turn around and say there is a right to sex in a relationship. Enthusiastic consent cannot be born of manipulation or coercion. 🧵/
