We’re consulting on the continued use of formulae and equation sheets in 2025, 2026 and 2027. This follows @educationgovuk’s decision that students don’t need to memorise formulae and equations for GCSE maths, physics and combined science. gov.uk/government/consultati…

Picked up a 'sined' copy of @standupmaths Love Triangle today. Really enjoying it so far but a bit confused about page 0.9945 where it says interior angles of a n-sided polygon sum to (n-1) x 180. Shouldn't it be (n-2) x 180? Am I missing something??

Never in my life have I seen it written like this. Is this popular amongst a certain crowd? For 'O' I would use 'Order'? #Maths #edutwitter

Hey, so I am a little bit nervous to announce that I am going to have a go at writing a blog about calculator usage. I thought it might encourage me to continue creating my instruction cards. Here is the first instalment. sites.google.com/ormistonaca…

Why is there not a more 'formal' name for the proportion symbol? I've looked and it seems it's only referred to as the "proportional to" symbol in unicode and LaTeX. #Maths #vocabulary @jemmaths @Mathematical_A

there's no one best choice of notation. for example, mathematicians use "i" to denote the square root of minus one, because it's short for "imaginary." whereas electrical engineers use "j," i assume because it's short for "jimaginary."

What is the minimum amount of information required to prove that two irregular pentagons are congruent? Can two sides and two angles be enough in certain cases? #Maths #edutwitter

A Fermi estimation question for all your core maths students to have a go at! How many metres of spaghetti does the average person eat in one year? (If you'd like to provide a few parameters as a starting point, see our earlier tweet 😀) #nationalspaghettiday
Zenzizenzizenzic What? Well maths, like all languages, has its back catalogue of lost words. Zenzizenzizenzic appears in a famous 16th century textbook (below). It rolls off the tongue. Try it. Time for its return? But what does it mean? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenziz…
What is the first term of the Fibonacci sequence? I thought it was 0, some colleagues say 1! #Maths #education (thanks @jemmaths)

Maths teachers! Do you start the Fibonacci sequence off with 0 or 1 as the first term? I've always thought it was 0 but a few people have told me they start at 1...so now I don't know what to think! @AQAMaths @jemmaths #Maths #education
