So deeply proud of this beautiful, thoughtful magazine and the diverse voices it weaves together. A huge thank you to @Paticheri, @thatdoggonelady, @shirinmehrotra, @nazly, @foodwithmustard, @dinasfoodstory, @theprashanta and others not on Twitter.
We are thrilled to present Vol. 1 of Rasa! To name a couple stories to look forward to, the first issue of our new magazine offers an ode to the rich flavour of tal fruit, celebrated across cuisines in India, and a critical examination of the milk powder shortage in Sri Lanka.

To term Navi Pillay an ‘indentured servant’ is historically false and profoundly demeaning. Her forebears endured indenture. Their suffering is neither an insult nor a hereditary status to pin on a descendant. You may disagree with her judgments if you wish, but do engage with them. Reducing a distinguished jurist to the colonial subjugation suffered by her ancestors betrays contempt for the dignity of labour and for a painful chapter of our own history. A seasoned Indian journalist should know better.

Tonight, my 3-year-old son decided to test the power of his remote-operated car by running it through my HAIR. Ask me anything.

Such an amazing work. These are heroes. Yesterday a small calf of 3–4-days was swept away by the Teesta River near Gajoldoba and found several kilometres downstream. While mother was looking after it. See how it was saved by fisherman and united with the help of forest staff.

If you’re from India and have access to any of the cargo drones mentioned below and you’re a trained, experienced drone pilot who can help with relief operations in Nepal, please DM me. We urgently need your help. Many villages in Nepal are currently cut off because of floods, damaged roads and destroyed bridges, while helicopter access is limited. Cargo drones could help deliver essential supplies to areas we can’t reach easily, including: • Medicines & first-aid supplies • Dry food • Power banks • Radios/communication equipment • Blankets and other emergency supplies Some suitable Indian options include: • BonV Aero / Air Hans — up to 20 kg payload, ~12 km range, up to 30 min flight time, high-altitude capable, with winch-delivery options • Krushaka • Marut Drones • NeoSky / Throttle Aerospace If you can help us source these drones, arrange temporary deployment/rental, or connect us with trained pilots, please reach out. We will coordinate the necessary arrangements for deployment in Nepal. Please share this widely. Someone in your network might have exactly what we need right now. Nepal needs every possible hand. 🙏

There was a time when people went to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Manasarovar and other difficult-to-reach tirthas only later in life when they had fulfilled most of their responsibilities. Roads were treacherous back then and buses could hurtle down into gorges. But with improvement of infrastructure, people are not waiting for old age and going to Himalayan tirthas even in their 20s and 30s. The current Nepal disaster and various other disasters that are happening with regularity must give us pause. In the 2013 disaster in Uttarakhand more than 100,000 people were trapped and the army had to work round the clock to rescue stranded people. I do not think it was a good idea to over-promote tourism in the ecologically sensitive areas of the Himalayas. This year, records were broken when 1.5 million devotees visited Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri in the first 30 days of the 2026 yatra. Joshimath choked under a 25 km traffic jam earlier this year. Kailash Mansarovar is also seeing a massive increase in tourists. The Rasuvagadhi route in which so many people were swept away yesterday has seen an 18.75% year-on-year increase in pilgrims. Let's not get lulled into complacency by the better infrastructure. When Nature hits back against mindless development, no civil engineering can hold up. There are no easy solutions here but we need to really reduce the numbers of people clambering up over the Himalayas.

Noida woman caught hurling 'casteist' slurs at security guards of housing society. 'Joota saaf karwaungi tujhse.... Gareebon ke aulad.. do roti nahi hai jeb mein.. bh@ngi saale.. Akhilesh Yadav k kutte.... BJP se tere muh pe chappal padwaungi, aukaat me reh gareeb ki aulaad....'

As much as I hate to resort to social media for what should be a BASIC service, @HDFC_Bank’s reKYC process has all but driven me insane. Their forms are obtuse, their lack of responsiveness brazen. Who is in charge of the Nandambakkam branch? Who can help me out here?

As someone who was forged by the fire in these newsrooms, I cannot agree more. It took me years to outrun the belief a much-respected editor sowed in my young heart — that I was never going to be any good. A throwaway remark which took me a LONG time to disbelieve.
I say this as someone who joined Newslaundry as their first job, and was the youngest employee there for some time. This kind of environment shatters a young person's confidence. It doesn't make us "more equipped for the real world". It pushes us away from journalism.

You cannot: Work full time, raise children, keep a spotless home, show up fully in your marriage, maintain friendships, stay fit, build wealth, read books, pursue hobbies, serve only home cooked meals, answer every email, and still make the 3:30 school pickup. That standard was created to keep you exhausted and blaming yourself. Let it go.

Real life Snail and the Whale.
A pod of around 30 dolphins became stranded on a beach in Brazil after strong waves pushed them ashore. They lay scattered across the sand, making desperate clicking sounds and weakly moving their tails for help 💔🐬 A group of local residents and tourists quickly gathered together, working side by side in an urgent rescue effort. Every time a dolphin successfully made it back into the ocean, people cheered and celebrated with joy. Some of the dolphins even swam back in circles, almost as if they were saying thank you before finally disappearing into the sea. 🌊🐬

I recently fielded a very irate inquiry from an interviewee about why I had not used a quote from her in my piece, along with a threat to “reveal my name on social media.” I wish she understood this.
When I write an article, I tend to interview dozens of people to get the full story. Only a few make the cut in the actual piece (and it’s not always my call who does and doesn’t).

actually if you’re an expert in anything (and I use that term broadly) one of the most useful things you can do with your knowledge is share it with journalists on background so the story is reported more accurately! talking to press isn’t a vanity project it’s public education
I can't believe I need to say this, but if, as a journalist, you use my time, research & expertise without quoting me, don't be surprised if I never return your call.
