It's time to refresh your emergency car kit! ⚠️🚗
Swap out your layers, replenish your first aid kit and stock up on fresh batteries and water.
Pro-Tip: Don’t leave plastic water bottles in a scorching trunk for months — swap them out regularly for fresh ones, or grab a few shelf-stable water pouches instead. ⬇️
Practice, school runs, weekend games — the back seat gets busy this time of year! ⚽🎒
Before you put the car in drive, make sure everyone is buckled up. A properly fitted seat belt is your child's best defense on EVERY trip, no matter how short.
NEW: For the first time in over 25 years, NHTSA is using negotiated rulemaking to examine vehicle lighting standards, including issues related to:

The number of casualties on those public spaces between buildings that we call roads is a choice. A choice for politicians who create an environment that works for all its citizens or prioritises those in motors. It's why 20mph or 30km/h should be the limit where people are.

A red light isn't an invitation to squeeze through the intersection.
When the signal turns red, stop. Saving a few seconds isn't worth putting drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists in danger.

Knowing how to safely yield helps emergency responders get where they need to go. If an emergency vehicle is approaching, stay alert, safely move out of its path and follow your state's laws.
🚨 When approaching a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights, move into a non-adjacent lane or slow down if you can't safely change lanes. Move Over laws are in all 50 states!

On a 100-degree day, the inside of a parked car can reach deadly temperatures in minutes. 🌡️🚨
It's critical to prevent a child hot car tragedy with these simple rules:
🟡 Lock up — even at home.
🟡 Keep key fobs and car keys out of reach.
🟡 Teach kids that cars are not play areas.
If you see a child alone in a vehicle, call 911 immediately.

Upgrading small town intersections with high-visibility crosswalk markings and lighting makes pedestrians more visible to drivers at night, achieving a 40% reduction in pedestrian injury crashes. Crosswalk visibility enhancements are highlighted in FHWA’s Every Day Counts 7 Nighttime Visibility for Safety initiative: highways.dot.gov/sites/fhwa.… #RRSAW2026
Less than one quarter of the U.S. population lives in rural areas, yet rural roads are disproportionately deadly. 🛣️❌
This National Rural Road Safety Awareness Week – and every week – remind yourself:
