Useful tips from one of the partners in our network. Please share if helpful to your followers. @BritishRedCross
Our thoughts are with all those affected by the tragic attack in Southport. We know from our work responding to emergencies that many people will be feeling worried, especially children who might read or hear about it.
Follow these tips for approaching difficult topics.

ALT How to talk to children about difficult topics Keep it simple and avoid too much detail with direct, age-appropriate explanations. Encourage them to talk about how they’re feeling at a pace that suits them. Be honest even when you don’t have the answer, or use trusted sources to help talk through it. Reassure them that their home and school are safe places, and that these events, while tragic, happen rarely.

Today’s events remind me of the importance of learning from previous tragedies and the long term impact they have if young people aren’t supported to recover… thanks to @NatEmergTrust and their network for this vital research we must all learn from….
Yesterday, we shared our #BeeTheDifference report. A third of young survivors, just like us, received no professional support. We are calling for this to change.

Today we remember the 72 people who died in the fire at Grenfell Tower seven years ago. We were created a year later to strengthen partnerships and connect people when emergencies strike. Our thoughts are with those who died and everyone who lives with the impact to this day.
