Slice is a new open source app from @sourcefoundry that uses @FontTools to slice the design space of variable fonts into smaller sections (e.g. if you just want one axis from a multi-axis font). It can also generate custom static fonts and edit font names.

The new @InDesign 16.2 has an option to automatically set the Optical Size value of variable fonts based on font size: helpx.adobe.com/indesign/use…

The automatic Optical Size preference for variable fonts in InDesign 16.2 revives functionality that has actually existed in InDesign for many years. It was mostly forgotten though because it only worked with Adobe’s old Multiple Master font format.
