Microsoft just released a Rust-based OS project designed to run Linux apps on Windows.
It’s called LiteBox, and its first tagged release, v0.1.0, is now on GitHub.
LiteBox is a “library OS” that provides operating-system functions inside an application’s sandbox while limiting its access to the host system.
Microsoft lists running unmodified Linux programs on Windows among its use cases, alongside sandboxing Linux apps on Linux.
It also supports security-focused environments such as AMD SEV-SNP.
The project is open source under the MIT license, but it’s still experimental. Microsoft says its APIs and interfaces may change before a stable release.

In the next version of Bun
`bun check` is a TypeScript type checker builtin to Bun (written in Rust)

ALT Announcement graphic for bun check, a TypeScript type checker built into Bun, with the Bun logo. A bar chart compares type checking VS Code (10,947 files). bun check: 1.75s, 2.77 GiB. tsc 7 with --checkers 16: 5.88s, 9.23 GiB. tsc 7 (typescript-go) with default settings: 12.58s, 7.73 GiB. bun check is 3x to 7x faster with 2.8x to 3.3x less memory. Linux x64, 64 threads, mean of 20 runs. Passes 100% of TypeScript's conformance tests. "Thank you, TypeScript team. bun check is a port of typescript-go."
Another day, another rewrite in Rust
We’re rewriting the Angular compiler in Rust 🦀 (partially)!
Meet ngp (Angular Preprocessor): a hybrid compiler decoupling our transforms from TypeScript using Oxc, readying Angular for TypeScript 7 & native tooling.

Google says Gemini 4 Argon agents have already freed over 300 TiB of memory across its data centers, with a 1 million token output limit and agents already optimizing its own infrastructure.
The agents analyzed profiling data, found memory optimizations and applied changes that were subsequently rolled out.
Argon agents are also working on C/C++ to Rust migrations reaching 800,000+ lines of kernel code, with extensive audits and testing before deployment.
For its video decoder, Google says agents replaced 32,000 lines of SIMD code with safe Rust, making the existing Rust port 2.7x faster while preserving identical video output.
These are expensive engineering tasks inside infrastructure Google already operates.
This release seems to be a much bigger deal than people think!
Been running a beta version of Campfire rewritten in Rust today! The code itself is still ugly as sin, and 6x as verbose, but the conversion was free*, and I never had to look at the Rust directly, so this is awesome 🤩 github.com/basecamp/once-cam…
In the last ~month:
• Bun Rust rewrite.
• Shopify migration from Reactive Native to native.
• Next version of Hey will be Rust + native apps. From the Rails company, no Rails.
Yesterday, I asked a Shopify person: what are the chances that in two years Shopify is still Ruby?

JavaScript was never designed for the server. If that doesn't change soon, JavaScript on the server will be replaced by Rust.
The fix needs to happen in the engine. Sound types. Ahead-of-time compilation. Threads with shared objects.

This is sick! I JUST referenced the same paper this is built on - "Fearless Concurrency on the GPU" - in my video "Why Rust Can't Replace C++".
And just a week later, CUDA Rust is officially announced! Not yet production ready, though (their words).
But that paper was for cuTile Rust. cuda-oxide, on the other hand, is new... very interesting.
Introducing CUDA Rust!
CUDA Rust lets you write GPU kernels natively in Rust, not just launch them from it.
Two paths: cuda-oxide for SIMT kernels compiled to PTX, and cutile-rs for Tile-based programming on stable Rust. Both can catch aliasing errors at compile time.

Rust is eating the world and Copilot brought a fork 🦀
@github used Copilot to rewrite Copilot’s agent runtime in Rust. 800K+ lines, 128 PRs, shipped incrementally. Existing end-to-end tests ran against the new code at every step.

🎉🎉🎉Boom
@nvidia joined the Rust Foundation !!!!!!
I wrote an article about this:

I agree with the premise.
But why not Go?
Simpler to write, easier to review, amazing libraries and routines.
Tradeoff: A garbage collector and nil pointers
Unless you are in a critical performance application, I don't see the benefit of Rust

At 250 billion DNS cache entries, one wasted byte costs 250 GB of RAM.
Five Rust optimizations later: 100 TB freed, inserts 43% faster, lookups 19% faster.
We didn't trade speed for space. cfl.re/4gyL9Jj
Yeah, getting my agents to recognize multiple repositories is turning into a headache. It involves complex engineering.

three months into rust bun. Drop is very nice. PRs have a lower blast radius. I sleep better

I'm not commenting on Rust vs. Zig. I'm more commenting on the fact that AI wrote 1M LOC in 11 days and within a few months that code is running in production on millions of developer machines and it all "just works".
Software development is changed forever. And it's magical.
