Craig Mello was awarded the Nobel Prize after discovering a process called RNA interference, which can regulate gene expression by silencing selected genes, or rendering them inactive. This plays an important regulatory role within a genome. Read more: bit.ly/3eM8UBh

Patients with estrogen-receptor-positive (ER+) HER-2-negative advanced breast cancer experienced significantly improved progression-free survival when treated with an oral combination regimen that included giredestrant, a novel, next-generation selective ER degrader and full antagonist, compared to a standard combination approach. Recently published in @NEJM, these findings come from the phase 3 evERA Breast Cancer study, led by Principal Investigator @elmayermd. Read more: bit.ly/4jGjOYA

Most popular number in research might be p < 0.05 Probably also one of the most misunderstood! Consider two studies: → Study A finds a tiny effect with p = 0.001. → Study B finds a potentially important effect, but the confidence interval is wide and includes no effect. Which deserves more attention? The answer depends on the research question, the uncertainty, and what difference the effect would make in practice. A p-value alone cannot settle that. This is a simple visual explaining what p-values and confidence intervals actually tell us. Worth keeping nearby when reading or writing research papers. ---------------- 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥? 🗳️ I encourage @UICC voting members to support @glopes, for President-elect. His extensive global oncology experience across Asia, Brazil, and Miami, combined with his commitment to listening, collaboration, and measurable progress, makes him an outstanding leader to advance cancer control worldwide. 🌎🎗️ #UICC #CancerControl #GlobalOnc 🎥 youtu.be/FehR9Ai_kWg
Voting for UICC’s next President-elect is open. I am honored to stand as a candidate and grateful for the opportunity to have served on the @UICC Board and chaired the ATOM Coalition. These experiences, together with our work advancing lung cancer policy through IASLC, have reinforced three convictions: Listen to members. Strengthen institutions. Turn commitments into measurable progress. Our achievements belong to the many organisations, advocates, clinicians, policymakers, and partners working together across countries. If elected, I will bring that same commitment to listening, partnership, and delivery to UICC’s next chapter. I would be grateful for the support of UICC’s voting members. Together, we can accomplish more. #UICC #CancerControl #GlobalOncology youtu.be/FehR9Ai_kWg

What if immune cells could be reprogrammed to fight cancer directly inside the body, instead of in a lab? A new @NatureBiotech study from MIT used lipid nanoparticles to deliver CAR mRNA directly to natural killer (NK) cells. Up to 80% of NK cells were reprogrammed in mice using an NKG2D-targeted particle. Targeting NKG2A, an inhibitory checkpoint, both delivered the mRNA and relieved an inhibitory brake, leading to complete tumor regression in most treated mice in a melanoma model, with no recurrence through day 100. CAR expression was temporary, and repeat dosing may be needed. Still preclinical. But a cell therapy delivered from a vial instead of manufactured in a lab could transform access to cancer treatment.
