Working on climate change is tough. But then my 7-year-old motivates me to keep fighting — and makes my heart explode with pride — with this. (Apparently I fight climate change as the Statue of Liberty, which is just so beautiful.)
Sue Biniaz is a decades-long hero of multilateral climate progress. Nice to see her get a well-deserved profile.
John Kerry calls Sue Biniaz the “unsung hero” of global climate negotiations. Other negotiators call her “terrifying.” nyti.ms/3OffYUI

Also looks like that Xie is speaking through the interpreter from the US side - showing that this was indeed impromptu and he came to the event at Kerry's request.

It’s simple. If you don’t understand the threat of #climatechange to developing countries you cannot lead the world’s top international development institution.
🌎🔥 Today I asked World Bank president @DavidMalpassWBG if he believed in the scientific consensus that the man made burning of fossil fuels is rapidly and dangerously warming the planet.
“I’m not a scientist,” he said.
Here’s a thread about the remarkable exchange. 🧵 1/

Great to see that @RNicholasBurns is finally sworn in as the next Ambassador to #China. And not a moment too soon as the US is distracted by #Putin, #inflation, and more. We need to keep our focus on the most consequential relationship in the world today.

Incredible: Beijing gov't has announced that the city met China's air quality targets for all 6 key pollutants in 2021. Extraordinary progress that was almost unimaginable 10 years ago. sthjj.beijing.gov.cn/bjhrb/i…
Hey @Twitter, stop serving me Exxon’s greenwashing ads! It’s morally wrong and I’m tired of it. You shouldn’t be taking ad dollars from fossil fuel companies, and you shouldn’t be pushing their BS to climate advocates.
Starting in <1 hour! Looking forward to the discussion.

This is a really important point. A good joint statement enables both sides to return home with a positive outcome, while also boosting global momentum. Today’s statement accomplishes all those goals.

Both sides benefit from this. For the US, it shows they are coming away from Glasgow with at least a signal by China that they hope to be able to do more and ways to hold their feet to the fire. For China, it helps stem the perception they came to Glasgow entirely empty handed.

This is most welcome news. Kudos to Xie Zhenhua and John Kerry for prevailing in the face of strong domestic headwinds in their respective countries to make this happen. May it prove to be much more than mere words, and usher in a lowering of temperature in both senses.
I welcome today's agreement between China and the USA to work together to take more ambitious #ClimateAction in this decade.
Tackling the climate crisis requires international collaboration and solidarity, and this is an important step in the right direction. #COP26

Wonderful to see the U.S.-China climate declaration released today. Strong foundation for ongoing dialogue and renewed cooperation on enhanced near-term action. Kudos to both negotiating teams who worked tirelessly to reach consensus under challenging circumstances.

SG Guterres clearly interpreting Xi's announcement to cover financing.
I welcome @POTUS Joe Biden’s announcement to increase international public climate finance to $11.4 billion a year.
I also welcome President Xi’s announcement that China will end financing of coal fired power plants abroad & redirect support to green & low carbon energy.
