鑑賞者の予想をはるか斜め上へと連れ去る、トリッキーで野心的な仕上がりを感じた。
『トップガン』や『ミッション：インポッシブル』といった代表作で魅せてきた地球の危機を救う頼もしいヒーローの象徴とも言えるエースパイロットや敏腕エージェントの役柄、そしてダイナミックなアクションと見終わった後の爽快さを持ち味とする作風とは今作はまったく異なるベクトルに位置していた。
ストーリーの進行に伴って作品の方向性が思いもよらない方向へと転がっていく手際は実に小気味よい。
くわえて最大の醍醐味と言えるのが幾重にも練り上げられた仕掛けである。
途中でいきなり訪れる作品の種明かしには素直に驚いた。
物語は風刺に満ちていて環境問題や終盤に明らかになるとある世界の正体など、創意工夫に満ちた作品だと思わず唸る。
表面上の派手さに頼るのではなく、根底に流れるシニカルな哲学と面白さを高いレベルで両立させており、最初から最後まで周到な計算が尽くされている。
先の読めないプロットと名優 トム・クルーズの新たな一面を求める方に強くお薦めしたい一本。
