The phiKZ jumbo phages build a protein based nucleus to protect their DNA(!), but what do they do before the nucleus is built? Led by outstanding post-doc @MozumdarDeepto, here we identify host and phage proteins in an immediate early phage lipid vesicle.

Is it time for NIH to switch from cataloging microbial genes/gene products (i.e., human microbiome project) to supporting functional analyses though new initiatives?
Over the moon that the DFG is establishing a priority programme to elucidate gene functions in the human gut microbiome. I am delighted to be coordinating this programme with @TypasLab, @JoergLab and @baerboletta. Exciting science to come!
