After years of planning and building, The Gambia’s largest, and fully equipped modern hospital is now open, as President Barrow commissions the Farato Hospital.

Yesterday was a day I will never forget.
Standing before The Global Tower, the tallest commercial building in The Gambia, I was reminded that every great achievement begins with a vision.

But here's the other side: Jambur Solar feeds 23 MW with battery storage. A 20 MW solar tender drew 38 bids. Coastal communities are planting mangroves, not just watching them die.

The ocean isn't silent either. Overfishing, plastic pollution choking our beaches and drains, and fishmeal factories grinding up our food security for export powder.
The sea gives us D234M in revenue, but we treat it like an open bin and an open bank.

Our forests: 44% of our land are under siege. 70% already degraded. Illegal charcoal and timber trafficking accelerate monthly. In 10 months, Forestry seized 27 vehicles and dismantled 30 illegal charcoal sites. Not just theft, this is desiccation.

We've lost 20–30% of our mangroves in 25 years. Mangroves that shield communities from floods, filter seawater, and nurse 80% of our commercial fish species.
813 hectares were restored in 2025, but the pace of loss still outruns repair.
Nature's shield is thinning.

Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay. For The Gambia, this isn't a hashtag, it's a survival memo.
We are a country of 44% forest cover, 80 km of coastline, and a river that feeds a nation. But the numbers are warning us. Let's take a clear-eyed look at what we're really up against. 🧵🌍

OFFICIAL: 141 nations voted yes. The Gambia went silent. We’re done waiting. Our press release demands immediate answers from the government. Read and share. The silence ends now. 🇬🇲 #ClimateJustice #WhereWasOurVote #NoMoreSilence @GambiaMoFA

141 nations stood up for climate accountability. The Gambia stood aside. For a frontline nation like ours, abstaining when you should be shouting isn’t neutrality, it’s a quiet betrayal.
We deserve to know why.
