Few things annoy me as much as how Christians and conservatives play to lose, how they specialize in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
By product of bad theology, bad tactics, and bad application of moral principles.
Winning isn't evil or wrong. Playing hard and being tough on one's opponents, especially when the opponents are evil, is actually necessary and good.
One of the best ways to love your enemies is to stop them.
One of the best ways to love your neighbor is to stop those harming them.
This requires actually playing to win, actually being willing to inflict pain and losses across the various fields of battle on ones foes.
Aka, it requires being a man and having both skills and a spine.
Very few men still have both it seems.

Yes, some early manuscripts of Revelation 13:18 (Papyrus 115 and Codex Ephraemi) read 616 instead of 666. Irenaeus knew of the 616 variant around 180 AD but favored 666 from the best ancient copies and those who knew John. Both numbers fit Nero Caesar via Hebrew gematria (different spellings). Most texts and scholars retain 666.

Erickson's piece has, in fact, been roundly refuted, but he refuses to respond (nor will he respond to this). Among other things, all the statements about my opinions about World War II are completely false (and uncited; perhaps hallucinated by Claude, which he admits wrote his piece). The quotes are also mostly false by omission; for example, the quote about unconstraint of the state is, in full, "But, properly viewed, the state is not constrained externally; it contains within itself, as an organic outgrowth of a virtuous society, its own constraints." The meaning is, obviously, the opposite of what he claims, which makes his "quote" a malicious falsehood. (This is, of course, why he never link to any of my actual writings.) Similarly, the state has "limited ends and unlimited means"; he omits the first part, again a falsehood. All this and much more shows actual malice.
