Listen and Act Quick on Feedback Not even 24h ago, @jessepollak dmed me this feedback on @usebackroom: ‘Would be great to be able to buy a key with the assets I have. Think I'm blocked bc I don’t have enough $ROOM.’ He’s absolutely right. the UX of being blocked bc you don’t own the right asset is still standard in crypto, but it’s bad if you think about it. We can (and should) do better by abstracting that away. That said, it takes a bit of time to let people buy keys with any asset, and right now we have a couple higher priorities. Still, there’s always ROOM to quickly improve UX and help people reach their goal, in this case: buy a key. So within 24h we shipped what you see in the 2nd screenshot: showing users why they can’t buy the key (insufficient balance) and the solution (a “Buy ROOM” button). This should be good enough for now, until we shipped our current priorities and can circle back to Jesse’s suggested ideal solution. Final note: it’s awesome to be building in an ecosystem with legends like Jesse, who care and help builders in many different ways. Always shipping. Relentlessly improving. Never finished. Thesis: Small, high-quality onchain communities led by KOLs are the future of crypto GTM and UA. OCDs - Onchain Community Deals - will replace all Web3 marketing practices. @useBackroom is the ideal crypto distribution layer. Problem: Projects are burning money on inefficient, expensive attempts to attract users. Common strategies mostly bring in airdrop farmers and offchain users who don’t fit the product. Teams need a better way to go-to-market, acquire, and convert real users. Social campaigns, airdrop systems, paid ads — all of these have from extremely low conversion and even worse retention. They’re expensive, runway-draining, and token-supply-wasting. Solution: Backroom is both a marketplace for valuable information and a platform to reach the right user base for any onchain project. Who is the ideal crypto user?
An active onchain user. someone who is taking risks, who understands the game, and has skin in the game. Who is the worst crypto user?
Airdrop farmers with no skin in the game. People who only do offchain social activities. On Backroom, the ideal user base already exists: only active onchain players looking for opportunities, willing to take risks, are buying backroom keys. The creators of high-performing rooms and real alpha are the thought leaders worth working with. By offering OCDs to rooms on Backroom, projects can efficiently reach the exact users and KOLs they want. Whether it’s pre-sale/OTC deals to ensure “skin in the game” or onchain tasks to bootstrap protocols and gather valuable product feedback, it all becomes possible and efficient with the right distribution layer. This is btw exactly what I envision @useBackroom rooms will eventually become: Small, high-level, *active* onchain communities that projects will reach out to (and pay) for honest feedback + bootstrapping their initial mainnet traction. Projects have been burning money and tokens on inefficient marketing for years in crypto. The real deal is finding small, experienced communities of **active onchain** users. Backroom users are exactly that: - They are active onchain - They buy keys to get alpha and make better decisions onchain. You wouldn’t buy a key to access alpha if you weren’t active onchain and willing to take risks. That’s exactly the type of people projects should want to attract: chads. Backroom users are chads. Period.
