A default is not a commitment. It is a position a vendor holds until they decide otherwise. The software a practice already pays for keeps adding AI by default — not as a product anyone chose, but as a feature that arrives with an update, with a toggle somewhere in settings and the work of finding it left to the professional. The objection is rarely that AI is bad. It is that a lawyer, a therapist, an accountant or a bookkeeper is now answerable for whether client files touch a model they never agreed to. That is not a preference. Anyone holding other people's confidential material carries that obligation personally, and it does not survive "we changed the default." The alternative is not to avoid AI.
