Savery's Pump, Edison's light bulb, Wright's flyer, Ford's assembly line , Teller's gadget, Neil's step, @Spacex landing. HUGE HUGE DEAL!
AI work thoughts...
I've always had more things to do than I could accomplish. I was always limited by my drudgery tolerance... Today amazing things can get built at a rate that is exhilarating...... I'm working way longer hours because the hours have 100x "accomplished something today satisfaction"... That feeling has always been the real reward.... My wife (and our dog) have been in San Fran visiting our Grand daughter. and as a result I've lost all the normal moderating influences... I worked 40 hours Fri,Sat,Sun and accomplished more than I would in 6Mo in past times and I'm stoked... (As I type this its been 15hrs today)
After diligently working my craft for 47 years i will never again form a buggy whip with my own hands..
This 100 times this:
To the tech community.
1. We lost the ability to go to the Moon when president LBJ killed funding for the second production batch of Saturn V vehicles in 1968 due to "budget" (as the budget exploded by 45% to fund the Vietnam war and the Great Society programs).
2. We lost the fully reusable two stage to orbit (TSTO) Space Shuttle design in 1972 due to the same fictitious budget problems.
3. We lost the "Project Independence" in 1974, which would have built 1,000 nuclear power plants, taking America off the oil teat entirely as a response to the 1973 oil embargo. It was killed with the ouster of president Nixon and fear generated by nuclear disaster movies.
4. We lost the dual truss Space Station Freedom that would have been a low earth orbit base of operations for sustainable lunar development in 1990 due to the same mythical "budget" problems, only saving the program when it became a political prop in 1993 to keep the Russians from supporting the Iran nuclear program.
5. We lost the Moon (Space Exploration Initiative) in 1993, concurrently with the Space Station redesign as a change in political parties that used the budget again as their excuse.
6. We lost the Moon once again in 2008 after a restart in 2005 as a new administration with different priorities cut the NASA budget by $2 billion a year and replaced it with vague talk of an asteroid visit mission.
7. We are in a fight of our lives today over AI and the urge of government control and the false hope by certain AI captains that government control is a good thing.
We in the space and nuclear power community have fought for decades to overcome these setbacks to the future. There is a persistent need of a certain political persuasion to stifle technological development. (a certain politician in a book about balancing the Earth called techno optimists as dangerous to society. We see this same thing with Burnie the old and his regressive bill to halt AI advancement.
The only battle we decisively won, was against limits on encryption as it was stupid. The government wanted backdoors to all encryption, not understanding that any state level effort could find the backdoor and have access to our houses. We won that then, we must win this now, as AI is not doom, it is a tool, like a shovel, a gun, or a nuclear weapon. All are useless without the intent of a human behind it.
They are waging a war, on the political front now, and as of today engaging a former president.
We are on the other side. We must win, for the sake of the future, all of our future, as our adversaries have laughed at every time we have done something stupid like this.
Over 500 years ago a regressive Chinese Emperor burned Zheng He's ships of exploration, that had gone as far as the Horn of Africa. This reactionary hobbled China and led to hundreds of years of weakness. If we lose now, what is next? The fears of nuclear power again? Abandon the Moon yet again? This time we are not alone in this. This time our adversary, with a keen sense of history and a 500 year old grudge against the west, knows exactly what to do.
Victoria in futurum!

One of the cool things about the Breezy trip was seeing how varied the U.S. is an experiencing different places.
I was waiting for weather in Lafourche LA. As It was a very different environment than "My Normal" so I pulled out the 360 camera and filmed a drive down the canal...
(Video link in first comment to make X happy)
Its kind of a cool easter egg hunt, In order:
Unfinished drawbridge
Lots of shrimp boats.
Cars waiting on drawbridge.
New Tug pushing old Tug.
Oil Services Boat
Cemetery with fancy monuments
Barge pushing boat out of the water.
Kid fishing
Strange Boat
Cows
Crossing the River.
9/11 launched one of the first viral videos....

Along with a more modest proposal for 2027, down the big US rivers Missouri and Mississippi, Montana to New Orleans...
So the breezy is back in CA, not home yet. Flew the entire OR coast over last two days it was beyond spectacular.
Both @grok and Claude are having capicity/availability issues this morning, did something happen to colossis? Did some one dig up a fiber cable?
Crazy breezy trip for 2027....
Up through NV and UT to yellowstone, follow yellowstone river to Missouri river.
Follow Missouri to St Louis then Ohio river to West Virginian and back to St Louis...Mississippi till Arkansas river then on to Colorado state and over to the Colorado river down to the CA/AZ border them home. That would pick up all the of the lower 48 states that I have not hit this year. The breezy would then have gone to all 48 of the lower 48.
My breezy is at Yakima aerosport getting an oil change. I will start the final segment home on sep 2nd. Im on the right, guy on the left is the origional builder of my Breezy, Mike Butterfield.
So I made livestreams for most of my Breezy flights.
I had AI do the following: Extract the GPS track logs from all the Gopro Video. For the missing legs see if you can find adsb data. Make a unified KML file of the route. Taking that data go through my you tube channel and rename all the livestream videos from "Paul Breed Live stream" to Livestream From X to Y where X and Y are the citys and state. Use the GPS time and livestream time to get the names right. Claude did all of this with almost no interaction on my part. This saved me days of work.
The world is changing....
We have a device that connects to the NetBurner ecosystem and provides 2.4/5.8G wifi peripheral.
This software would is based on the ESP32-C5 WROOM. We put custom firmware in the C5.
Since we don't want to hand program and package 1000's esp32-c5's with our custom firmware. So we go to a chip programming house and they program our code, laser etch the MAC address and put on tape and reel.
ESP32-C5 has robust encryption readout control based on one time programmable fuses....
Two years ago that code would be a 4 to 6 man month project and protecting this IP so people could not steal the code would be important.
The chip programming vendor we have used for years was really struggling with the fuse programming and encryption the ESP32 supports*... So much so that we were left with find a different vendor or program them ourselves....
In todays AI world with the interface specification (which we provide with our tools) Claude or similar could recreate the code in a few days.
Given that the amount of work to get all the anti-clone encryption stuff working is not worth the effort.
Our code is still ours and the if someone clones it and cuts off our margin, then we still have legal recourse, but they could clean room duplicate it quickly so... the tradeoff of effort/time changes...
Looks like ALL DRAM production for 2027 is already sold....
Before everything got crazy I put 128G of DRAM in two different computers and bought 30Tb of various SSD....
I did not realize this would fully fund my retirement, but here we are....
