ALT Workers United and Starbucks share a commitment to developing a productive relationship in the best interests of Starbucks partners. During mediation discussions last week over ongoing brand and IP litigation, a constructive path forward emerged on the broader issues of the future of organizing and collective bargaining at Starbucks. To build on that path, Workers United and Starbucks have agreed to begin discussions on a foundational framework to achieve collective bargaining agreements for represented stores and partners, the resolution of litigation between the union and the company, including brand litigation, and a fair process for workers to organize. As a sign of good faith, Starbucks has agreed to provide workers represented by Workers United with credit card tipping and benefits announced by the company in May of 2022. While there is plenty of work ahead, coming together to develop this framework is a significant step forward and a clear demonstration of a shared commitment.

ALT Dancers at LA’s Star Garden Topless Dive Bar Become the Nation’s Only Unionized Strippers Votes by North Hollywood strippers in union election to be counted by the NLRB this week; employer withdraws all election challenges; strippers will be reinstated; bargaining for a first contract to begin with the assistance of Actors’ Equity Association; club to reopen and dancers to return to the stage

ALT – The 15-month effort by dancers employed at the Star Garden Topless Dive Bar in North Hollywood, Calif. to gain union recognition and become the nation’s only unionized strippers ended today in complete victory.… Lawyers representing the owners of the Star Garden Topless Dive Bar in a settlement hearing with union attorneys withdrew all election challenges, agreed to recognize the union and will meet with Actors’ Equity Association across the bargaining table within 30 days to negotiate a first contract. The club also will reopen for business and bring back dancers who were dismissed last year. As a result of the settlement, the National Labor Relations Board, after a six-month delay due to the employer challenging the eligibility of some voters, will count all the votes this week and is expected to certify Actors’ Equity Association as the bargaining agent for Star Garden’s dancers. Dancers working with lawyers and union representatives will now prepare to bargain a contract.

ALT We, the Scoopers of the Ben and Jerry’s Burlington Vermont Scoop Shop, excitedly and enthusiastically write to inform you of our intent to exercise our right to organize a union with the backing of Workers United. Our goal in this action is to create a better-working and equal partnership between our community and yours. Conjoining the two will generate a sustainable and fair collaboration in which all Ben and Jerry’s employees and affiliates have the chance to advocate for and maintain their rights. As scoopers, cakers, TTTs, shift managers, and catering leads, we have all seen the positive impact of community within our scoop shop. The support and comradery this store has cultivated are rare and unique. Collectively, we have come to embody Ben and Jerry’s slogan of “peace, love, and ice cream.” We are taught from the beginning of our employment that equality and justice are integral rights of ours as people.

ALT But what happens when Vermont’s Finest are continuously left out of these conversations? These are the same concerns and injustices that directly afflict us. When will the activism and social mission our company empower come to reflect its own scoopers, the ones who work every day to keep their lines moooving? Despite record-breaking profits, incredible bounce-backs post-pandemic, and unwavering smiles, our staff is exploited within our work environment. Workers need a voice on issues that affect us. Forming a union will ensure that present and future scoopers have irrefutable rights. To this end, we want to acknowledge the efforts made by current management. The work you have done has not gone unnoticed and provides us hope for future cooperation where we can collaborate as equals. As a herd, we wear our Ben and Jerry’s hats proudly, serving customers with the highest quality possible, not unlike the ice cream we all enjoy.
