"And Be Friendly owned by" changes to slightly embarassed tone "Peter O'Sullevan" 😄😉 Really looking forward to @haydockraces tomorrow - fingers crossed the card is not decimated by non-runners.... 🤞🤞🤞

They are changing the name of Canadian geese to Donald Ducks. No ONE knows how to troll like Donald Trump. It's masterful. LMFAO.

What a delight to have seen Estrange at @CarlisleRaces rerouted from @haydockraces this year - "some wonderful moments on the racecourse" and an absolute stunner to boot. Thank you @omeararacing and in particular Charlotte Mulhall #horselove #goracing #gogirl

Boy am I excited. The best meeting by far in the Flat racing season. @yorkracecourse @YorkshireRacing and fingers crossed for the best race in the world again. It will have to go some to beat Bow Echo's Sussex. #Ebor26 #Juddmonte26

Betting shops are licensed, regulated, taxed, and employ tens of thousands of people. Grouping them with “dodgy businesses” isn’t a serious description of a regulated sector. It’s also aimed at the wrong target. Betting shops: 8,822 → 5,872 over the decade. Adult gaming: 1,610 → 1,502. Barbers: 2,953 → 18,078. Takeaways: 2,882 → 13,478. Whatever has reshaped the high street, it isn’t gambling premises. And with each new announcement, more jobs are lost.

Vape shops. Betting shops. Dodgy businesses. If you look at your high street these days and think ‘who asked for this?’, you’re not alone. I’m doing something about it. We’re giving local people and councils more control over what opens, and tougher powers to crack down on businesses that aren’t good for our communities. For too long, Westminster has stood by while our high streets declined. That ends now.

When Andy Burnham was born, there were 15,644 betting shops. When he first became an MP there were 8,756 betting shops. There are now 5,669 betting shops and he wants to tackle their "proliferation". There's no excuse for this kind of ignorance.

"There's a real concern about high streets that have been hollowed out, particularly in former industrial areas." Andy Burnham wants to make it harder for new vape shops and betting shops to open in England, as he seeks to revive the high street trib.al/ajbyZau
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The number of betting shops in the UK has been declining since 2015, down from 8,995 to 5,932 in 2024. statista.com/statistics/468…

Hugely disappointing news re Bow Echo. 😟☹️Hopefully all good for the future. But it makes the Sussex Stakes win all the more special. A race for the ages. #GoRacing #Horsepower

Following two dominant displays at Salisbury, Undiscovered has been entered for the Group 2 Vintage Stakes @Goodwood_Races on Tuesday. Our @RalphBeckett-trained son of New Bay looks a serious talent for his owners, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing him step up in class.
