“It's not unusual to have a little bit of flu show up when college students return to campus and when kids go back to school. However, we've been seeing some flu activity in the last few weeks that seems to be sticking around,” explains Emily Martin, @UMichSPH Professor of @UMichEpid to @Time.
Martin is the co-director of the Michigan Center for Respiratory Virus Research and Response
and the Michigan Public Health Integrated Center for Outbreak Analytics and Modeling, both housed at Michigan Public Health.

New research featuring Kelly Bakulski, associate professor of @UMichEPID at @UMichSPH, points to cumulative lead exposure as a potentially important—and preventable—risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
A new @UM_IHPI policy brief summarizes findings from two studies, including an estimate that approximately 18% of new U.S. dementia cases—roughly 90,000 each year—may be linked to cumulative lead exposure.

A study on how childhood lead exposure may cause dementia was published by @XinWang_Epid and @SungKyunPark1 was highlighted in the Washington Post: washingtonpost.com/climate-e…
Column: Lead poisoning is not a one-time event. The metal may remain in your blood for a few months after exposure, but 70 to 95 percent of what isn’t excreted is locked up in your bones, often for decades.
