There is no greater testament to the failure of the system (& of those running/benefiting from it) than the pure desperation of young people to flee, even at the cost of their lives. While previously death was reserved for poor migrants, it has now expanded to the middle class.

Hind Rajab was a five-year-old Palestinian girl killed by Israeli military firing several bullets along with six family members in Gaza City on January 29, 2024. Audio recordings of Hind calling for help sparked international outrage. In August, Israeli military confirmed soldiers fired on the vehicle and ordered an internal criminal investigation into the incident.

Since it seems that royalties are going to be back in the policy space in Alberta in the next few days, here's how much the largest mines and in-situ projects pay in royalties per barrel of bitumen produced.
