I spoke to @josephmenn this week about AI worms and wanted to add more color to my thoughts. What makes an AI worm different is that a model is capable of learning on the fly. This type of threat isn't here yet, but this is an example of an increasing shift that defenders are feeling. We keep hearing the same theme from @runsybil customers: finding vulns is only the start. Teams need to patch and understand their attack surface in real time. Our job is to find and fix what's exploitable faster than attackers. Onward 🚀 Full article here: theguardian.com/technology/2…

the 90s are alive! this week we saw - OWASP and the FBI getting defaced - F5 BIG-IP's pre-auth fully controllable overflow - and now... Kiwi used opus 5.5 to drop pokemon 0days and a gameboy worm. we're so back. read all about it and how it feels to use opus vs. kimi k3 for research and exploitation runsybil.com/blog/kimi-k3-vs…

A new take on a classic ctf challenge that unfortunately is widespread across the modern AI ecosystem. If you rely on sandboxes in Python (for example allowing customer-controlled Jinja) this probably affects you and anyone can get shell.

resident pro @BonJarber really killed it with this official set!!
Come find me at Black Hat and DEFCON this week for our custom @runsybil Magic The Gathering cards! Resident Pro Tour MTG player @BonJarber designed a kickass full set. We added these to the swag bags for @BSidesLV and we’re handing them out throughout the week 🫡

A lot has changed since the AIxCC last year. Today’s general-access models can find more vulns than last year’s finalists. In our AIxCC replay GPT-5.5 found 46 injected bugs vs the winner’s 33. However, it only produced 10 valid PoVs and 10 valid patches. Opus found 37, with 29 valid PoVs and 23 patches. Finding vulnerabilities is now the easy part - the hard parts are still prioritization, reproducible proof-of-vulnerabilities, patch validation, and keeping false positives under control.
.@DARPA gave 7 teams $135k to build custom AI systems that find and patch vulnerabilities. we achieved the same results with today's AI models and $600

SAST vendors still (always?) sleeping it seems like and at least for fuzzing it seems not quite dead, but on life support. @daveaitel at OAIC last year: "every time you run a fuzzer, an angel loses it's wings" runsybil.com/post/reproducin…

we got Opus 4.8 for @sshell_ and in a few hours he made Mario Golf do uncouth things, thanks @AnthropicAI
we got early access to Opus 4.8 and used it to hack a Nintendo 64 game you forgot about. here's what it didn't find: 1/

We built one hell of an 0day printer already, $40M will take us even farther
The way we hack is changing and we're building what comes next We've raised a total of $40M to create the AI-native platform for offensive security

When Wired asked us to run Sybil against a vibe-coded AI research site, we couldn’t resist. Thanks to @willknight for diving deep into our approach and what makes Sybil different from legacy scanners. This is just the beginning 😈 wired.com/story/i-watched-ai…

Proud to be an author on this. I worked on the human uplift and autonomous cyber portions of the evals and resulting paper that helped inform current model capabilities. We have a really impressive team here, stay tuned
With today’s launch of Llama 3.1, we release CyberSecEval 3, a wide-ranging evaluation framework for LLM security used in the development of the models. Additionally, we introduce and improve three LLM security guardrails. Summary in this 🧵, links to paper/github at bottom:

During a @Fox0x01 training, Tom found stack smashing protection was broken for GCC AArch64 under a certain (not uncommon) condition. GCC + Arm have fixed it, but lots of exploitable overflows will remain compiled in the wild. Sometimes it is the compiler! rtx.meta.security/mitigation…
