There are two justice systems in America. It’s time to dismantle systemic racism & fundamentally transform our broken justice system.

What we are witnessing is a system functioning as designed and protecting those it was designed for.
My heart still breaks for the communities and families whose grief now compounds, and the countless others who will be denied and deprived in similar scenes across the country.

61 years ago today, 4 federal marshals escorted 6-year-old #RubyBridges to her 1st day of school (1st grade), as the 1st Black student to attend previously all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans, Louisiana.

It’s hard not to notice the blaring difference in coverage, description, tone, the absence of insults or accusations of being “stupid” or “dumb” in the coverage of these two unvaccinated athletes. Especially by Stephen A Smith….but we know why

Imagine the largest max security prison in Germany was built on a concentration camp, with 75% of the prisoners Jewish. @ClintSmithIII tells @MehdiRHasan that he found a similar situation in Louisiana, where 3/4 of prisoners in Angola are Black and it’s on a former plantation:

It would be helpful if the US would finally acknowledge its contributions to destabilization and regime change in the region.
Doing so can help us change US foreign policy, trade policy, climate policy, & carceral border policy to address causes of mass displacement & migration.

This is disappointing to see.
First, seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival.
Second, the US spent decades contributing to regime change and destabilization in Latin America. We can’t help set someone’s house on fire and then blame them for fleeing.

The labor union movement has led the fight for equal rights and economic and social justice. Today, May Day, we reflect on those struggles, and pledge our support to protecting workers’ rights and building an economy based on human needs, not corporate greed.
