How awesome is this! A row full of sophomores in #APGov coming to @HughesCenter lecture @Stockton_edu to hear Richard Hasen speak about voting rights in America. Nights like this and kids like these are why I ♥️ my job! #sschat #iCivicsEdNet

I don't usually jump into Twitter debates, but I'm ready to offer my 2 cents on the growth mindset meta-analyses. I've already seen comments that I agree with pointing out that growth mindsets aren't intended to be considered as an overall main effect; (1/n)

The horror show that it has become for women in America
A Texas woman was forced to give birth to a baby missing part of its brain and skull. Then - because the state that forced her to give birth doesn't have public funds for infant funerals - she had to raise money to lay her daughter to rest. tinyurl.com/25a5kpw7

NEW: I’m not sure people fully appreciate how dire the US life expectancy / mortality situation has got. My column: enterprise-sharing.ft.com/re… And some utterly damning charts. 1) at *every* point on the income distribution, Americans live shorter lives than the English.

Mom asked, "I wonder when cherries bloom in Japan?" So I found 1200 years of data online and made her a plot.

Speculation that China might invade Taiwan to distract from mounting domestic challenges - or because Chinese leaders imagine that their window of opportunity to seize the island is closing - is not just wrong, but dangerous. Here's why: reader.foreignaffairs.com/20… THREAD

An open letter by a large group of economists to Jeffrey Sachs, a Columbia University economist who is pushing the Putin's line on Ukraine: voxukraine.org/en/open-lette…. Many thanks to the authors who painstakingly and carefully assembled facts that debunk the myths that Sachs exploits and highlight appaling contradictions in his statements. Frankly, I don't see Sachs changing his tune because of the facts or because real people are hurt by his propaganda - his whole professional life is a constant quest for media attention. I remember him advising reformers in transition economies - and loosing any interest in these countries once reforms moved out the US media frontpages. (The reality of many reforms, even good ones, are grisly and hard to discern for the public.) Then, a new topic, a new controversial stance, and a new round basking in media attention. Sachs know nothing about Ukraine, its history or its people; it just another stop in the constant quest. Still, if you are an economist, sign the letter - it contains nothing but facts, assembled in a professional and accurate way.

Given all the chatter about who supported the Iraq War and who didn't... see one effort to measure support for the war among #IRScholars back in the day -- 87% thought it was not in the U.S. interest to invade Iraq. @trip_irsurvey link.springer.com/article/10…
