Tonight, my family and I experienced something no family should ever have to go through.
Our restaurant, Singh’s Dining Restaurant in Hammersmith, was attacked by a group of Islamists.
We had been receiving death threats every single day, including one that specifically warned us that 28 October would be our last day.
We raised our concerns, and the @metpoliceuk were aware of the threats. Yet tonight, we found ourselves facing the very nightmare we had feared.
My daughter had to close the shutters just in time. I cannot even begin to imagine what might have happened if she hadn’t acted so quickly. We could have lost someone in our family tonight.
The attackers reportedly tried for a long time to break through the shutters to get inside, leaving shortly before the police arrived.
We have serious concerns about how the attackers knew when to leave, and whether they were alerted before the police arrived. These concerns deserve a thorough and transparent investigation.
Tonight, I am left facing a heartbreaking decision, Do we keep our doors open and risk our lives, or do we shut down the business we have worked so hard to build because I don’t serve Halal food.
No family should ever have to choose between their livelihood and their safety. No one should have to live in fear in their own place of work.
I am angry. I am heartbroken. I am frightened for my family’s safety.
I am calling on the @metpoliceuk to take these threats seriously, investigate tonight’s attack thoroughly, and ensure that my family is protected.
Please share this post. Let our voices be heard. We should not have to wait for someone to lose their life before our safety is taken seriously.

Labour have just told a man who nearly died after being kicked into the path of a van that his attacker could be released early from prison.
Last summer, James Hatcher was kicked by Salman Kamraman Karim into the path of a van in a random attack.
Hatcher suffered broken legs, ribs, pelvis, wrist and jaw, a punctured lung and a bleeding brain.
He went into a coma for 6 days.
He can’t work. He can’t live his life as he knew it. His whole life has been turned upside down by this criminal.
His attacker was only sentenced for grievous bodily harm in June.
Just 2 months later, Hatcher was notified that Karim will be eligible for early release.
Imagine the horror, imagine the sense of deep injustice, that his attacker could now walk free. James can barely even walk.
Don’t forget that early releases existed under the Tories too.
Only Reform will shut them down for good.
We will rapidly build new prisons, deport all 10,000+ foreign offenders in British jails, and create enough space to end all forms of early release.
Reform will keep violent criminals where they belong: in jail.

Why it winds me up. Young people on benefits.
In the early 1980s I left my violent first husband with nothing but my baby in my arms. I went to live with a work colleague's mum in her flat for a couple of weeks until I found a bedsit to rent.
I worked full time as an audio typist in a solicitors' office. I paid a childminder. I got the bus to work. I worked 3 nights in a pub with my baby in a carrycot in the back room of the pub while the landlady's daughter kept an eye on her.
I went to evening classes 2 nights a week for 4 years while my mum (who was still working full time herself) babysat, to get my Legal Executive's qualifications.
Sometimes I didn't have dinner. Couldn't afford it. Toast done on the bar of the electric fire or boiled parsnips. As that was all that was left until payday.
Then one day I bought a 2 bed maisonette. All by myself because I scrimped and scraped and went without. A lot.
So stop making your limp excuses about young women with children on benefits. Yes, it's hard. Yes, it's tough out there. But getting off your bum and changing your life yourself is possible. But it's also about sacrifice and resilience. Two things sadly missing from a lot of people today. And you, with your lame excuses, are enabling their apathy.
