My wife has insane hours in these sciences through college, conferences and professional development. We talk a lot on AI, its applications and the future of the tech.
Having these conversations feels incredibly important no matter where they pop up. Even if you're sick of it.
Can I be honest for a sec?
Regarding LLMs in gaming, I feel more confused than ever. And I would like my peers and other people who are familiar in this field to chime in.
Itโs barely been a week since I made my post about distancing myself from a vibe coded project made by my friend in Smash. I even said โAI has no place in gamingโ.
After I made that post, I was reached out to by multiple colleagues in the space and people hired full time in software development. They educated me severely on the topic and I feel dumb now for my earlier sentiments.
I was informed by my colleagues that it is now the norm to do 90% (and this is low estimate apparently) of all your coding with AI assistance or vibe coding. 75% of all new code at Google is made by AI and engineer approved.
The vast majority of all the apps we use now are updated or maintained with AI coding - I imagine that also goes for Twitter, the very app youโre reading this on.
So I figured okay - itโs here to stay in all software development - but where does that leave video games?
I saw the posts from Epic Games, XBOX, and other publishers that seem to embrace the new era instead of rejecting it.
In the last week Iโve been sent about a dozen different projects like this one that dissect and reintegrate Melee in multitudes of creative ways.
One of them is even a build of Melee that runs natively at 120FPS and one of them simulates the feeling of a CRT almost perfectly.
Some of them feel silly and useless, like low effort projects someone probably gave a single prompt and an ISO of Melee to build. Actual slop.
And yet some feel like legitimately useful things that the community or people practicing could benefit from.
Iโm doing my best to navigate what is clearly a rapidly changing sector, especially when we regard the question of โAre Video Games Art?โ
And since they clearly are art, does that render AI in its development a bastardized amalgamation of whatโs been โlearnedโ from people with actual original ideas?
Or is it strictly optimal to use AI in game development because games ARE software and therefore a necessary tool to wield in this day and age?
I am making this post because I need more guidance on this topic and I feel open discussion on it might be the best way to do that.
Can't QRT this one by @raisedintyo but this definitely poses questions about whether team information at a high level should be made publically available or not. Feels like we just had that debacle.
But this nudges me more in the paid report direction/the Japanese Note model.

Hi y'all!
As many of you know, i'm currently in grad school for game design at NYU. For one of my midterms, I wanna write about Pokemon Champions bringing new players into VGC.
If Champions was how you started playing VGC, could you tell me about it below?
RTs appreciated!

An absolutely surreal run, my first top cut, first stream set, my best finish ever, all with my all-time favorite, Swampert, by my side.
Matthew's team now ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Your Mons love you and hit their moves because you are pure of heart โค๏ธ I'm so stoked for you, brother!! Good to let them know you're him.
Got my first top 32 at Louisville this weekend! Couldnโt have done it without @typeswigg who sent me the team on Thursday. Went 9-3 with mega Pyroar despite never playing a game with it before my round 1 match. Also loved to see @Relentles_Rogue go on a run after knocking me out

Mostly stuck with anime I watched growing up first getting into anime/manga forum culture in the 2000's.
Haikyuu! and Erased made the list as the best anime I've watched in the last few years that I should have seen ages ago.
Praying they stick the landing on Bleach TYBW ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
Ended up caving under the weight of 4k likes and made a team! Been playing it a bit on cart ladder and it actually feels pretty solid. People really do be out here learning the Bulletproof lesson the hard way! ๐ซช
Enjoy! ๐๐ป
