I still remember traveling near Kakamega Forest in Kenya, super rural. 10PM, heard music blaring. Found 20 people playing Dolly on a boombox. We couldn't understand a word of each other's language, but they had 3 Dolly CDs & we spent joyful hours together listening to them all.

I am safe. I feel safe. Finally. Happy 2026! May it be a safe one. Put God first, always. See you at fulfilling, wholesome places and spaces that feel safe. With people who proved to be safe to be around. And today, I spoke to all of them. Peace.

Outsourcing to consultants is a way to increase public servants incomes through bribes.

One of the craziest things I've come across is that most finance managers of most state institutions hire external consultants for preparation of financial statements and other finance reports. These are basics that any finance professional should know.

Tresor was beautiful eventhough, I was disappointed by the sound. It didn't do justice for this amazing singer from Goma. The music is so incredible with so much depth.

This year at JOJ, I could not choose between Esperanza Spalding and Oumou Sangare, so I peeked in at CONGA for Oumou and luckily, Ms. Spalding started later than anticipated. My heart was full.

She mentioned Wayne Shorter. A sweet, amazing man who I encountered many years ago at the Cape Town Jazz Festival. He was on the line - up in that year with Bra Hugh. One could not choose but I ended up with Mr.Shorter.

Also, this year at JOJ, it was my 3rd time seeing Ms. Spalding. It had been a real Joy to witness and see her on stage, at home. This past Friday, I was in awe of the amount of love and joy I get from seeing her LIVE.

I started attending Joy of Jazz at 20 years old. This was more than 15 years ago. From Newtown days to Sandton. It was great to get my tickets, at the hotel next to the venue, take a breather and attend two amazing performances by Wynton Marsalis & Esperanza Spalding on Day 1.
