These are the discussions we should be having. "After all, consent here is a legal criterion, not an ethical one — a floor, not a ceiling. It defines the bare minimum, but it doesn’t define the good." (unlocked article)

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens.
We are.
500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term.
Our tally is almost certainly an undercount.

Thought-provoking article about religious leaders meeting with Anthropic. One of many things that stuck with me is this: “The whole convening should have happened at the design stage....We are now reverse engineering the ethics.”

I have never seen an administration so determined to dismantle the work of prior presidents and legislatures. If they had any ideas of their own, they'd be working on those instead of causing chaos and wars.

Of course, we did. How short their memories are. Morons in charge rn.

Now this is a fun use of #AI! Race on, fellows, race on
The DOJ is a govt agency with responsibility to the US people, not Trump. Guess this is because he's pardoned more people in this presidency than all the other presidents combined over 40+ years.
All Trump pardons have been scrubbed from the @TheJusticeDept website:

It is unreal that this had to be a lawsuit!
Breaking News: Texas must fully air-condition its prisons by the end of 2029, a federal judge ordered, saying the lack of cooling in most of the state's lockups violates the U.S. Constitution’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment. nyti.ms/4hlWPiO
I'm with Tom. Wolf. The current inept US govt is completely incapable and likely unwilling to coordinate a global approach to regulating #AI. The companies won't do it themselves, so we'll all have to react and suffer the consequences at some point.

Typical authoritarian behavior. Suppress the press when you don't like what they have to say about your regime. So much for the First Amendment and freedom of the press. That is the people's house, not his. nytimes.com/2026/09/18/busin…

People understandably want to know how AI actually kills everyone. We made a video about one such scenario.

MIT published a brutally honest report on what AI is doing to students.
A committee of professors and students spent five months studying how AI changed learning on campus, and the findings read like a warning to every university on the planet.
Study groups are disappearing. Office hours are emptying out. Problem sets and take-home exams no longer prove anything, because AI can produce credible solutions to almost any written assignment in the undergraduate curriculum. Students who lean on chatbots lose mastery and confidence, and some slip into what the report calls cognitive surrender, reaching for AI at the first hint of struggle.
The numbers are rough. 46 percent of surveyed MIT undergrads use LLMs daily. 90 percent worry about their own overreliance. Undergrads who feel AI makes them replaceable now outnumber those who feel it makes them capable.
The committee's answer surprised me. They refused to fight AI with surveillance. The report calls AI detectors unreliable, says lockdown browsers feel like spying, and warns that policing students builds a classroom atmosphere of mutual distrust.
Instead, MIT wants to rebuild education around the things AI can't replace. That means oral exams, semester portfolios, in-person project work, and a required social component in every subject. The report even floats the idea of rethinking grades entirely, since without a GPA to optimize, much of the incentive to cheat with AI evaporates.
The committee warns professors against replacing undergrad research assistants with AI agents just because they're cheaper, because a university exists to grow people, not output.
The most famous tech school on earth admitted the machines broke its way of teaching. Its answer is more humans, not more software.
Reading Dario Amodei's Pacing the Frontier essay this morning. This is the most prescient quote, "Despite all the progress, we still only understand a tiny fraction of what goes on inside these models." That's the head of Anthropic saying that. 1/2
