Historic Milestone: More Than 100,000 Students Apply for Texas Education Freedom Accounts
(AUSTIN) — The record-setting demand for school choice in Texas hit a new milestone this weekend. More than 100,000 students have applied for Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) in less than two weeks.
This marks the largest launch of a new school choice program in the nation’s history, and parents still have more than a month to apply.

A record 42,000 ESA applications flooded in on the first day.
"The downside is a $1 billion cap on funding in the law, which means only as many as about 90,000 kids will be able to get ESAs this year. The program prioritizes students with disabilities and from lower-income households. Mr. Hancock predicts they’ll “sell out” this year, but the high demand should give lawmakers incentive to raise the funding cap."

Exciting news from our @txcomptroller @KHancock4TX ! I was proud to be a co-author of SB 2, to empower parents and families to choose the best educational opportunities for their children!
"Applications will open at 9 a.m. Feb. 4, and will be submitted online at EducationFreedom.Texas.Gov. The application is mobile-friendly, and most families can complete it in less than 15 minutes. Families will have until March 17 to apply, and the program is not first come, first served.
If more families apply than available funding allows, a lottery will be used, with eligible families prioritized as required by law. Students with disabilities are at the top of the prioritization list. Parents can learn more about prioritization, funding amounts and program details on the website."
