I've been a professional software developer (for some definition of all three words) for over 23 years. I have been writing software for several years before that. I am now physically incapable of copying and pasting text that does not have a typo init.

Well, look which site is shallow skinned and unable to take the fact that it's losing the competition. If you're looking for my posts in the future, check my profile, which apparently contains information that can get my account suspended. help.twitter.com/en/rules-an…

I'm going to trial using Mastodon for my "shout-into-the-abyss" posting for the rest of the year. I'll still be reading on Twitter and probably replying as well, but new posts will be over at @twasink@aus.social.
Look, if "suffers from hallucination and tends to write plausible-looking BS with uncanny confidence" doesn't satisfy a test for human-level intelligence, then neither do a whole bunch of humans...
ChatGPT is the closest model we have that looks like AGI, but still suffers from hallucination and tends to write plausible-looking bs with uncanny confidence. It could be misleading and even dangerous. Can we fix it? There is a simple & intuitive remedy:🧵
I have to say... focusing on the skin colour of an actor means that you don't care about the story telling. So anybody who is upset that a white character in a game is played by a black character in the TV show isn't focusing on the story telling.
when you want a socially acceptable way to say there's too many black people on tv

That also goes for people who get upset about white people playing characters who are a different race in the source material. But, to be fair, people decrying whitewashing in media _aren't_ bitching about the story telling.
That's one funky gibbon... (Also: all apes – even lesser apes – are monkeys. That includes humans. Not all monkeys are apes. Yes - if you're an uncle, you're a monkey's uncle)
Make way for the Gibbon! Fun fact: Gibbons are actually lesser apes, not monkeys.

I also think it's sad that they created this entire category of "lesser ape", and the _only_ animal in it is the gibbon. Talk about judgemental...
The treasurer who deliberately built in economic fragility into the budget - who paid off debt by a firesale of revenue producing assets - who slashed taxes below long-term sustainable levels: he doesn't get to judge bad economic decisions.
I borrowed the first book in the series from the library on Friday. It’s now Sunday night, and I’ve just finished the last one. Truly compelling story telling.
The first words of A DEADLY EDUCATION to the final ones of THE LAST GRADUATE. The next adventure in the world of the Scholomance begins today. Thank you so, so much to all of my readers who’ve shared this incredible journey with me; I hope you love where it takes you next.
There's going to be a lot of people cross about that name...

There is an extremely simple way to skirt the App Store fees: have people sign up outside of the app. Of course, that would mean that Twitter would be dealing with the payment processing, as well as the inevitable fraud.
NEW: Twitter is delaying the relaunch of Twitter Blue as it tries to skirt Apple's 30% App Store fees. In the meantime, the company's ad revenue is down 49 percent or more week over week in key markets. My latest with @CaseyNewton: platformer.news/p/twitters-a…
Hmm... I suppose, if I was fired from Twitter, it might be tempting to come back just so that Musk and his transition team could pledge fealty to me. Certainly can't imagine the other way around being a possibility...

Those fired for shitposting Musk need to talk to his transition team first. This is essentially a pledge of fealty. Musk is still worried about internal sabotage.

When a security firm (which a password manager is) suffers breaches, it really should be a bad sign. Multiple breaches in a fairly short time span should be a death blow.
LastPass, a major password manager, has announced a security breach — again. In August, the same unauthorized party accessed “certain elements” of customers’ information. The company says customers’ passwords remain safely encrypted. n.pr/3OUK7ci

Ditto. Mind you, that's been my policy since I joined Twitter. The number of times I've seen an ad on Twitter that interested me enough to click on it can surely be counted on my fingers. And not using binary representation...
