Four Corners just found 'Affordable Housing' is often barely a discount off market rent, often still too expensive for people who need them most. One tenant, Sarah, had her rent quietly changed from income-based to market-based, which suddenly meant an increase of $80 a week.
Direct spending into housing by the government cannot be replaced by relying on market but we should still ensure developers share more of their profits.
We highly recommend checking out the Four Corners investigation and listening to Sarah's story, as well as other tenants.
You can watch the full episode on ABC iview here: tinyurl.com/dmx78ez8 and if you have a story of your own to share on affordable housing or rent increases or renting in general please get in touch with us here: tinyurl.com/3cdftbp5
