Maintenance is over, you can test the new feature: unroll dm
You can mention the bot as usual with unroll dm keyword instead of unroll and you will get a DM instead of a mention (must follow Thread Reader App)

Twitter is kind of hiding Thread Reader App mentions.
The only solution I can see would be to go over DM instead,
