I completely believe it. When young parents ask me for early homeschooling advice, I tell them to start curating a good home library (used are great!) and keep it in the public spaces in the home. Then designate mandatory DEAR (drop everything and read) time once a day, where everyone reads for an hour.
If you do this, you’ll be 90% of the way there for the earlier years (and heck, even the adolescent years if you’ve built this into a habit).

Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.
A happy feast day to one of the GOATs and one of my favorites, St. John Henry Cardinal Newman—who didn’t want to leave the Anglican Church and become Catholic, but couldn’t not once his conscience compelled him. …Man, did I feel that, too. I love him.
St. JHN, Doctor of the Church, ora pro nobis!

"An Orphan & A European City"
A very different, very fun podcast episode today: @tsh and I talk about books, orphans, Parisian childhood, and martial arts. We discovered a thread in my choices...what a title!
I recommend two books and two places and...
FINALLY got some updated author headshots... Only took about ten years.
(Serendipitously, the coveted best seat in my neighborhood coffee shop was wide open, and it's where I do most of my writing anyway.)

Homeschooling is going on a unicycle ride around the neighborhood so you can concentrate on listening to Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy.

Honor Wendell Berry and make his memory part of your own by memorizing this poem with me.
We only truly know that which we hold inside ourselves.

An excellent piece with excellent advice, from @jeff_bilbro.

There have been 4 major revolutions in the past 250 years: American, French, Russian, and Chinese. Only one led to individual rights and prosperity. The others led to mass death and tyranny. The US revolution was unique because it said two things: 1. Our rights come from God not from the govt. 2. Humans are power -hungry so we need to limit govt power. So the next time someone attacks the nation of one revolution that succeeded and recycles the the idea of those that miserably failed, you can ask them: are you ignorant, or malicious?

Why is it ‘cancelled’ in the U.K. but ‘canceled’ in the U.S.?
Because we gave them that L in 1776.
“Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children’s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.” -Theodore Roosevelt
