Ransomware operators are exploiting a Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect VPN flaw to bypass multi-factor authentication and enter corporate networks.
In one investigated case, attackers reached VMware management systems and stole credentials directly from a domain controllerβs virtual disk, avoiding security tools running inside the virtual machine.
Researchers linked exploitation of CVE-2026-0257 to Spikey Scorpius, also known as Qilin, and Tarnished Scorpius, also known as Inc. Separate public reporting connected exploitation to operators using Settra ransomware.

π°π· π¨ UPDATE: SOUTH KOREA NOW CONFIRMS DATA BREACHES AT 16 FINANCIAL COMPANIES
Follow-up to our Oct 4 post on the probe into hacking at 7 financial institutions. On Oct 14, 2026, South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) said 16 companies across the financial sector have now been confirmed to have suffered recent data breaches.
What the FSC disclosed:
β’ About 100,000 pieces of customer data are estimated exposed: names, contact details, resident registration numbers and email addresses
β’ No breaches of account passwords or credit card numbers have been reported so far
β’ Affected firms were told to block the attack-linked IP addresses, patch, and suspend services where needed
β’ The FSS and the Financial Security Institute are investigating whether the incidents are linked, came from the same attacker, or involved AI
β’ All 555 financial companies completed a 12-point security checklist; 130 reported gaps, mostly in patching and control systems, concentrated in e-finance and P2P lending
β οΈ Analyst Note:
"100,000 pieces of data" is a regulator estimate, not a count of unique people. A common attacker or AI involvement has not been established. Resident registration numbers paired with contact details are prime fuel for impersonation and voice phishing, so expect targeted scams against Korean financial customers.
